Gun cabinet plans?

My insurance company says that i need to have all of my guns locked in a cabinet. I do have several of my guns locked in there but i also have several locked in cases as well because my cabinet is not large enough. Any ways they will not cover my firearms unless they are all locked in a cabinet. I was wondering if anyone has any gun cabinet plans for the do it yourselfer like myself. Most of what i am finding on line you either have to pay for and when you do its not the cabinet they pictured in the first place or they are not what i am looking for.
Please help. I need something for around 15 guns with ammo and other accessories.

Are you looking for plans for a wood gun cabinet or a metal one?

I bought my 27 gun gun safe from an outfit called Costco out here in Idaho. It ran about 675 bucks and comes in near 300 pounds. bolted to a concrete floor I feel pretty secure about my guns.

I would probably build some kind of cabinet into a closet and put on a welded steel door with a good lock on it at the minimum. You could have a door made up from 1/8 inch plate with some angle iron or square tubing frame to bolt into a closet.

I certainly wouldn't feel comfortable with guns in a wood gun cabinet even with insurance on them.
 
Friend of mine made a nuce gun safe/cabnit by linning the walls of a closet with a couple inches of drywall and reinforceing it with metal strips between two layers. We figured the fire rating with the thickness of the drywall at around an hour and a half at around 1200 degrees. The closet will hold around 100 guns ammo and all kinds of accessories. this may not be a way for you to go but it is an option.
 
Forget about a cabinet.Buy a safe. For the cost of one or two guns you can have something that can keep your 15 from getting stolen. Some people wait untill they get robbed before they buy one,I say just bite the bullet and get one before.

Just a little echo from others, but based on experience as a LEO,,, Buy a real safe. Or at the very least a steel lockable cabinet that can be hidden.

A wooden cabinet looks nice and allows you to see/show off what you have as part of the furniture, but in the event of a fire or burglary, you'll lose it all very easily.
 
If and when you buy a safe dont jjust get one big enough for the things you have now. If you can afford it get one at least twice as big as you would need right now . You will be supprised at how fast it will fill up. I got one that I thought would do me for a very ling time. Man was I wrong. Filled that baby up in less than a year and now I am in the market for a new/bigger safe. Wont get rid of the old one cause it will give me a place to keep non-firearm related things.
 
I took a closet and stripped everything out of it and lined it with about 2in of firerated drywall and picked up a firerated door. The closet is 6 feet wide buy 12 feet long. I have reloading bench on one wall and a gun rack on the short wall. It has more than enough room to hold all of my guns plus reloading and hunting stuff. Keeps people from being nosey. From the outside it looks like a closet until you hit the door. My insurance company lowered my policy for putting that in. Due to the fact that it is a secure place. I think I have about $250.00 invested plus my time. And I needed to build a new reloading space any way.
 
The closet things works great. How many people can say they have a walk in gun safe?

If you do a closet style safe place dont forget to use a dehumidifer. The extra drywall will really hold any moisture that may get in there. Its also a good idea to add metal bracing before putting up the drywall. That way in the event of a fire it will have more that just the wood structure to hold it all together and will add strength in case someone tries to break into it.
