Gun laws from our pals down under

Yanks, I thought you all would like to see the real figures from Down Under. It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by a new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by our own government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars.

The first year results are now in: Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2 percent, Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6 percent; Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)! In the state of Victoria alone,

homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent. (Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not! and criminals still possess their guns!)

While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months, since the criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed. There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the elderly.

Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in "successfully ridding Australian society of guns." You won't see this on the American evening news or hear your governor or members of the State Assembly disseminating this information.

The Australian experience proves it. Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws affect only the law-abiding citizens.

Take note Americans, before it's too late!

FORWARD TO EVERYONE ON YOUR EMAIL LIST.
DON'T BE A MEMBER OF THE SILENT MAJORITY.
BE OF THE VOCAL MINORITY WHO WON'T LET THIS HAPPEN IN THE U.S.A

Don't know for sure if this is all true or not but very interesting to say the least.

Doesn't surprise me at all. In college I did a speech on gun control and found similar results while doing research. It was great doing this speech in a small livberal arts college. Kind of against the grain if you know what I mean. I found this interesting opposite side of the coin story though: One town small town that had a very high crime rate passed a law requiring all citizens of legal age to carry a side arm. Result: crime dropped 78% that following year.

That letter has been doing the rounds since 1997 and it isn’t exactly the most accurate portrayal of the state of our country.

Crime is always on the increase here but gun crimes (crimes committed with the use of a firearm) have been steadily declining for many decades (when taken as a percentage of the overall figure). The removal of the Aussie hunters and shooters right to own semi-auto rifles and semi and pump action shotguns hasn’t affected the trend at all. There was an increase in violent crime though in 1997 when the bad guys thought they were on a winner after the “bad” guns were removed and the trend in violent crime seems to have stayed higher since. Maybe the bad guys are just bolder now, who knows.

The government took all sorts of firearms of the ordinary citizen and made out that it would be the big fix we needed to cut violent crime, but their claims have proven to be totally wrong again.

Here is a page where you can access some graphs showing the crime rates etc’.

In all the graphs there is a spike in 1996 because that is the year that the arsehole down in Tassie killed all those people at Port Arthur.

So when is the Australian Govt. going to appologize to all the gun owners and buy y'all new firearms to replace what they stole from you?

That my friend is never going to happen.

Our PM has stated on national radio that he hates all guns and would be happier if no guns were in private hands.
Michael has already warned me about swearing on the boards so I can't adequately express my real feelings towards our Prime Minister, I can tell you though that if he was on fire I wouldn't cross the street to urinate on him and you can bet all Aussie gun owners feel the same way.

The same has happened here in the UK. All hand guns had to be surrendered, with the exception of humane killers for vets etc.
Now just look at the news. It was a well phased saying at the time, & it has certainly rang true!!!!

IF YOU OUTLAW GUNS, ONLY OUTLAWS WILL HAVE THEM.
