I have a good friend that swears by Zanotti. You can see their safes at www.zanottiarmor.com

I have my gun room in the basement, and my next safe will be one of these.

They are modular, and when put together, are as fire proof as the all-in-one safes.

Good luck!

Regards,
Tim

I have 5 safes and am in the market for a sixth, I have been buying the American Eagle safes from Academy. Their prices are the best I found. They seem to be all I need in security and fire rating.

One thing that you may want to remember, a fire safe takes 6 big gorillas to move, and if your house is not on a slab, it may mean floor reinforcement. The non-fire safes are MUCH lighter, and two guys can move them.

Always get a safe larger than you think that you need.

Always use a golden rod in your safe, or guns will rust unless you live in the dessert.

Best investment you will make is your gun safe.

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif I can give you a secret to moving the large safes that are fire rated. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

A pocket full of golf balls /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif works slick Mine weights 1200lbs and once you get one started it's easy /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I like Cannon safes. Especially if you live a ways from a distributor. Search around on the net and some distributors are cheaper than others and their price includes the safe being delivered to your house from the factory.

I like my Cannon Executive Vault I bought a few weeks ago. Fire proof for 1 hr, weights in at 600 lbs(empty) and will hold 24 long guns with storage shelf above guns. Like Petersen said, check them out before you buy. Cannon has a lifetime warranty and will come to your house if a repair is needed or you have a problem.

I would recommend the American Security brand of gun safes. In my opinion they are one of the best gun safes made in the industry. The AMSEC BF6032 Gun Safe has a 90 minute fire rating at 1275 degrees. It has a Underwriters Laboratory (UL) Residential Security Container (RSC) burglary rating. This safe will protect your guns and documents from both fire and theft.

I would not store backup discs, photographs, hard drives or ANY media in just a regular fire safe. They make special safes called "Data/Media" safes specifically for this. They are expensive but they will protect any media in case of a fire.

I have a Cabela's safe made by Liberty and really like it! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif You can't go wrong with a fort knox either .I had a Cannon I bought from Cabela,s and when I had trouble with it their customer service was terrible!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif Lucky for me Cabela's helped me out on this. And Cabela's also had a hard time dealing with them just to get the thing outta my house!!!!Yea I seen all those Cannon commercials on TV too how good the warranty is.Lucky for me I did buy it from Cabela's and they were great!!!!I'm actually surprised they still sell cannon safes at Cabela's now as they were pretty pissed about this too!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

One thing to keep in mind. I took a tax deduction for my gun safe, since I keep documents in it I stated it was also a personal safety deposit box.

Ackleyman made a good point. Buy bigger than you think you need...I bought one last year, and already need a bigger one. That was a big mistake. For $200 or $300 more I could have had a bigger one, and now i am going to have to spend $800-$1000 to get one big enough to support me now and in the future,

I have a question about Fire rated safes. I know a good safe could prevent your guns from burning, but how could they possibly keep the temperature low enough in a fire to keep plastic from melting or wood from warping?

I'm on my second Zanotti, the first one shrank and I had to get the BIG one, hopefully this one won't shrink as quickly as the first.

Talk with Mark Zanotti, he builds them one at a time with a small crew of employees so the quality is top notch. One guy can easily set one up, you may need a dolly for the door however. Several interior options and a few exterior color options available.

I don't know if I'd call it a safe, and it's not fire proof, but you could just build one in the corner of the dining room.
