Gun values/need help

I have a question for all you gun nuts! I have a guy at work that wants to sell me a Savage model 12FV with accu trigger in a 223. It has the 26" heavy barrel that is blue. Check it out at http://www.savagearms.com/12fv.htm

He said he has put about 1000 rounds through it and it is in good shape. He's will leave the base and rings on it but is going to keep his scope. Asking $300.00 for it. He wants to upgrade to stainless.

Another twist; I have a Bretta 92 in 9mm that is in good shape. I have two high cap, 15 rnd mags and one 11 rnd mag that would stay with the gun. He is interested in a trade.

Is this a good trade and/or is this a fair price on the Savage. What should I do? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

My personal opinion count? If the deal seems good to you, and the pistol is just laying around collecting dust, and you want the rifle, don't worry about a true dollar figure. Do the deal if it feels right. I even hate the words blue book. The only person who even uses the blue book price, are dealers. They rape you for what you have, and then turn around and sell the item for $100 bucks more. If you offer them blue book price for what they have on the table, you get that look. Something is only worth, what someone else will pay. If your happy, do it, don't worry so much about a dollar figure. Butcher

For the same amount of money, it wouldn't be hard to find a Savage 12fv with less rounds fired through it. The Berretta is definitely worth a bit more money. But, as The Butcher said, if it feels good, do it. If it were me, I'd get the rifle and about $100 in cash---2MG

Thanks for the response guys. I am still mulling-it-over. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif The Bretta does mostly collect dust, I'm not a pistol guy. I am in no hurry so, I think I need to hit some gun shops and check things out more.
Any other advise will help! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif -Ron
