Guns they should have never discontinued.........

Lots of guns, and a few I have no idea what they are.

One thing that has bothered me that I no longer see are varmint rifles in a caliber besides .223, .22-250 and .308.

Back in 78 I bought my first varminter, a Rem 700 in .25-06. Back then that rifle could be had in .222, .223, .22-250, .243, 6mm, .25-06, 7mm08 and .308. You don't see these chamberings anymore.

You rarely see the .243 in a varminter now. Where'd they go?

Winchester pre-64 Model 12's. I had a M-12 WS-1 skeet gun when there were actually good numbers of quail here in central Indiana, and I loved it. Sold it after the blizzard of 78 killed off the majority of our birds. I sure wish it was still sitting unused in my gun safe today.

Remington LVSF. I don't know why they didn't chamber this rifle in .243 as a regular production item. That's the only reason I never bought one. I already had a SPS stainless in .22-250 so a LVSF in .22-250 wasn't in the cards.

Remington 700 Mountain guide stainless.. I found one of these in .243 a few months ago. I think it's the perfect predator bolt action rifle.

Colt Woodsman and Huntsman .22 pistols..

coyote6974. Remington LVSF. I don't know why they didn't chamber this rifle in .243 as a regular production item. That's the only reason I never bought one. [/quote said:
I have a Model 700 LVSF in 243. I believe they made a special run for Zanders in 243. It is a very accurate rifle, but for some reason, I shoot it much better at the shooting bench, than I do in field.

It is 57 years old..

The Marlin 336 was ever factory chambered in .358 Winchester? You didn't mean .356 Winchester did ya?

Just so you know...

Wow. That's great. But close to $1000? That is sad. I bought my first K-22 in 1975 for the tidy sum of $100. Quite a markup. I wish that my pay had gone up 10 time in the last 35 years.

Don't kill the messenger...

That makes the Edsel look like the greatest success of all time.

Just seen a side by side at an auction go for $160. Wishing I had the money that day.

Yep. Typo. My bad. They made like 2200 in 356. This one is is spectacular shape, but it just sits in the safe. I have so many other lever guns that I just can't bring myself to use it, being as rare as it is, and the condition that it's in. Thought of selling it, but I can't bring myself to do that either. Every time I post pics of it I get PMs with offers to buy it, but I never sell.......

Savage was also in financial trouble, and the machinery for making the 99s was in terrible shape. They did not have the money to fix it at the time.

They were actually going to come out with a long action 99. They even made a couple of prototypes. One of them sold for $6000 I heard......

Hummmmm.... No one has mentioned my FAVORITE shotgun. One of the sweetest shooting shotguns of all time, the Remington Mod. 31 pump in 16ga. with a steel receiver. The 20 with a aluminum receiver is awfully sweet too.
The ONLY shotgun that handles as sweet is... the old Browning Sweet Sixteen.
One of these days I'll have and use a Sweet Sixteen.
In a pistol; easy pick, the Mod. 19/66 S&W. Well... maybe not, the S&W 43 runs a pretty close second.
Rimfire: I think it's a Marlin 39A Mountie.
Centerfire: I'll go with the Mod 98 Mauser derivatives ie. the pre 64 Winchester Mod. 70.

I like the Rem model 31. But I have to admit, I probably like the Win model 12 better.

My favorite shotgun of all time is the Winchester Model 21 Grand American. American gunmaking at it finest.......
