Guns you wish you would have bought.

I was thinking about that $1100 .44 Magnum 788 a while ago and how I wish that I had bought a truckload of them back when they could be had new for around $100. Then I got to thinking about other guns that I passed up. A NIB (in presentation case) .44 Automag for $250, A pre '64 M70 in .375 H&H also for $250, an engraved set of Browning autos in .25 ACP, .380 ACP and a Hi-Power for $400, a new 6" Colt Python for $175, a SAA .45 Colt for $160. Man! All the stuff that I passed on. Granted, some of it I just did not have enough jingle for back then but I wish that I would have found a way.

I could go on but those are some of the more memorable.

So about you guys? How many of you are kicking yourselves for not buying a gun that you should have OR selling a gun that you should have kept? We all got stories I bet. Some sad ones too I feel sure.

a pre-64 model70 in 22 hornet like new condition for $100 at a garage sale. Thought to my self, well I have to go get the cash and what do I need a 22 hornet for anyway. What an idiot.

Not that I have a great love for them. But about 20-25 years back I could have bought M1 carbines for a little under 100$ a piece if I bought a case of 12. Now nobody needs a dozen of them, but have you seen what they go for now?

I should have never sold my Gold Cup Delta Elite 10MM.

One that I got rid of when I was young was a win model 12 20ga with a 3 digit serial# in mint condition. I sold it for nothing because it had a 2 1/2" chamber and couldn't find shells at that time. IDIOT

I had a CDNN catalog when I first became a cop, had mateba 44mags for about $400 each. Though they were neat and I would buy one someday. I didn't know they were going out of business and selling for a few thousand a piece a few years down the road.

Stainless Colt Python in the presentation box in near mint for $600.

S&W Model 27 .357 mag for $200...very nice condition.

I once left a gunshow when I didn't buy a Remington 11-87 LC Premier new in the box for $429. As luck would have it my wife realized that I should have and covered it for me.

Saw a Barret .50 at the local shop about 10 years ago. $2600 for the gun, scope, and bipod. Could've did the payment plan. A few years later same gun and setup-$4800. Still kicking myself for that even though I really don't have anywhere to shoot it.

I'm usually one to fall victim to seller's remorse more often than non-buyer's remorse.

I suppose I passed on a spare Marlin 1894 Stainless 44mag a few times when I shouldn't have. Passed on buying Marlin 1895 Cowboys and Stainless Guide Guns a few times when I wish I had spares of those these days too (with JM stamps). Ruger Mark I/Standards, I wish I had a dozen of them, passed on too many at $150-200 back 10yrs ago, now they're twice as much. None too broken up by it, I can still buy most of them, just at a higher price, or much harder to find.

The one I REALLY wish I wouldn't have passed on was a Marlin 99M1. It was in great shape, built in the late 60's, price tag of $400 on it 6 or 7 yrs ago. Absolutely stupefying price, rifle wouldn't book at $100 even back then. My first rifle was a 99M1, and it's sure a lot rougher than the one I saw. Woulda been foolish to buy a $400 rifle worth $100 and use it as a parts gun to fix mine up, but now that my baby boy is walking around, I'd gladly have made that deal to ensure my grand-dad's, and dad's rifle runs right when it comes time to pass it on to him.

Get me started on firearms I wish I hadn't sold, and we'd be here all weekend.

So I guess I have let enough good ones get away to keep me from being too sad about once I never asked to dance.

Limited edition marlin 1895g 45/70 16inch barrel passed on it cause it was laminate stock and stainless a few months later remington bought em out and the rest is history.

Colt python elite 4inch $800, had two already but no elite. They now sell for over two grand.

Colt saa .44 Henry rim fire $1200. Only one I ever saw and couldn't get ammo for it. Should be sitting in the safe right now.

Guns are good investments... I think they all go up in value except the ones put to hard use... I have certain hunting rifles beat all to heck but the memories I made with them are priceless... I have a Ruger LCP that is not worth what I paid for it cuz the finish is almost wore off from caring it everyday but the purpose it has served thus far is money well spent.. I think I will keep all my guns and continue investing.

I had to look it up..pretty unique/neat for sure;
Only one I can think of that I regret passing up (so far) is my Uncle`s Ruger 41 Mag. (steal of a offer)

I had a chance at a Sako .223, brand new for $249. That was back in the early 80s and I was as broke as anyone could get. I tried to trade to it, but the store owner wanted cash. My hunting buddy's Dad got the mate to it first, a Sako .222 for the same price. My buddy now has it.

AS to guns I have let go of, well, that's a different story. I sometimes grieve over the nice ones I have owned that I foolishly traded off. A couple of Colt .22 revolvers come time mind.

I sold a Savage 10FP in .223 that would throw 40gr V-max's into one hole @ 100yds. I think about that one every single day. Nothing special about the SKS I sold other than the fun factor and the fact that I paid $100 for it and they're over $300 now.

The one I wish I had bought? I once ran across a practically brand new 835 Turkey model for $120 and passed on it.
