Guns you wish you would have bought.

The .45-110 is one of my bucket list rifles. I have absolutely no use for one other than to say " I have one, and you don't" and the Shiloh's are just dang sexy. You can color me jealous fo sho!

Mine would be the then new Rem model 7 in their also new 7-08 cal.Not that I ever regretted going with Ruger's 77 in 7x57 for my first deer gun.

In 1980 myself, and the Sheriff I worked for were picking up some new Model 66 S&W revolvers at a large police supply house in Illinois. The owner of the business, now deceased, went under the counter and produced two black cases that each contained a Thompson model of 1928 sub machine gun plus accessories. He said he'd traded for them from a rural police department in southern Illinois and would sell them for $1500 each, if we were interested. May as well have been $15,000 as far as I was concerned at the time. We both passed on them.
 
I missed out on a AMT hardballer mint for 200 bucks at trade days,,,, gave the guy money to hold it,, drove 6 miles to the nearest atm,,, got back and he was handing me my money,,,, I was livid.

1972... walked into the Abercrombie and Fitch store in Oakbrook, IL... didn't buy for $202 (weird price) a Walther PPK (not a PPK/s) in .22LR... Engraved with Abercrombie & Fitch on the slide went back a few days later and it was gone... d@mn! That mistake has haunted me ever since.

Since then... Happy Harris (owned the gunshop next to the Chicago Police Headquarters and his wife was a Wesson) offered to sell me a nickel Model 36 with a 3" barrel and adjustable sights, factory made, NIB for about $100 in 1974 0r 75, I passed !!!

Around 1980 I was offered a Browning Superposed Broadway Trap gun for $600... LNIB I passed!

And the beat goes on... there are more over the years, far too many to remember and list

But, last but not least, last October. Walked into Cabelas and there on the clearance rack was a Deluxe grade Winchester Model 70 (new manufacture) in .257 Roberts for $750. I almost bought it but passed. A week later, they apparently realized their mistake and put it back on the rack for $1,750. When I asked what happened they acknowledged they had made a slight mistake and that someone almost got fired! I just cried at my stupid mistake....

So.... follow me around and then buy what I don;t...LOL

A Marlin lever action in 218 Bee. while they were still priced reasonable, and before the funny button was put on them. Still looking for one.

Now that would be sweet. If I ever find one I'll be sure to take a picture of it for you.

That reminds me about a year ago when I walked into Scheels and they just got in some Ruger Gunsites in. I was just window shopping and just heard about these. Well the first one I picked up and shouldered it, I liked it then saw the price tag $899.99, I was like naw don't need it that bad, well there was a second one and looked at the price tag and it said $749.99, I hurried up and found the closest sales person told him I want this gun... Make this story a little shorter, the manager came to me and told me there was a mistake on the price but customers always right! Lol... They tried to sell me $75 mags for it but I kindly declined and walked out with just the gun.
 
Mine would be the beautiful Dan Wesson .41 Magnum in a pawn shop about 4 years ago. Not a wear mark on it. I'll bet the gun hadn't been shot more than a couple of times. The guy behind the counter wanted $550 for it, and would only come off $10 for cash on the spot. I should have bought it anyway, but I was pissed that he wouldn't do it for $525. I got mad and left. Still wish I would have just nutted up and bought it. [beeep], I had the cash on me...... Some days I'm an idiot!
 
That reminds me of another DOH! that I did. Around 30 years ago I was in a gun shop in Katy Texas and they had a 5.5 inch 357 Mag Ruger Redhawk for sale. At the time I could see no reason why anyone would buy a .357 Redhawk when the .44 Mag could be had for the same price. The shop owner had had it for a couple of months and had it marked down to (I think) $275 just to get rid of it. I had a .357 Ruger Security Six and a .357 Colt Trooper a the time and had no interest in that big .357 Mag. Oh well. Had I only known.
 
Back in the mid '70s one of my officers got acquainted with the president of Auto Mag and wound up with the base .357 Magnum and then got his hands on a series of the experimental proto type barrels in various calibers for full interchangeability...He wound up going through a divorce and needed some cash and offered the whole set to me for $3,500 ($5,000 invested) and I had to pass just due to the lack of funds...Wish I'd taken out a loan at the credit union in retrospect...At that time, the interest rates were in the mid to high teens...
 
I wish I would have picked up more of the Chinese Norinco AKS and SKS rifles before the ban on import, also German HK-91 and 93 rifles
 
In the mid 90s, I had a table at a gun show...guy walked up to me and offered a new in the box Winchester 94 in .356 with 4 boxes of factory ammo....he wanted $300...I gave it to him, and put the rifle on the table. Sold it to a guy 1/2 hour later for $375...what a deal......NOT!!!

I passed on an all origional like new 1950s model 70 in .300 H&H for $400 about 10 years ago and passed on a SAKO in .338 Win Mag for $500 about 4 years ago.....

The list goes on and on...like the 5 inch S&W model 27 for $275...just didn't want to spend the $$ that was 15 years ago...I have to stop now...the tears are starting.......

I was coming out of a pawn shop in Livingston,MT. about 10 years ago and an old ranchand was coming up the sidewalk with a rifle on his arm . I asked if he was selling it and could I give it a look. It was an old Stevens single shot with the old school lever action. He said it was the rare one and was asking $350 for it, which was a lot to me then and I'm not a collector so I didn't look much closer. I told him good luck and walked to my truck and left. I researched old Stevens rifles a few years later, and I now almost certainly believe it to have been a Stevens Favorite Rifle 25RF. He probably would have taken $300.
 
An HK SP89, I had it for a week for $700.00 NIB. I was friends with the store owner so I returned it. Figured who needed a large 9mm pistol. Oh well. Bad move. Owned a HK43 for years with manuals and ATF letter, never fired it. Look that one up. Sold it to a collector, I'm glad it went to someone who appreciates it.

You know, I picked up a 1955 vintage M27 just a few years ago for I think $350. Actually, back when this one was made they were still called simply the .357 Magnum as they had not started using model numbers yet. It is one sweet shooting gun too. Personally, I think the 5" barrel is a great choice for double action revolvers. It was really popular at one time. Don't really understand why it is not much anymore.
