Gunsmith in N.Iowa or S.Minn.

Any recommendations for a gunsmith in Northern Iowa or Southern Minnesota for muzzle threading? I would rather not ship and want to keep it local if possible.

Ahlmans guns in Outside Morristown MN not far from Mankato. 7 full time gunsmiths. I was there 3 weeks ago and they said they repair over 10,000 guns per year. Nice clean shop that had a part I had been looking for for over 20 years. Very friendly I will be going back down the line. Only thing is it is over a 300 mile drive from where I live in Northern Minnesota.

Ahlman's is worth a visit no matter what. 1000's of guns, old to new. Just the parts room alone is worth the drive. (Wifes family has vacationed in Faribault since the 60's)

Canoe Creek north of Decorah has done great work for me.

1889 Marlin , new wood and stainless liner, along with a few handmade screws.

S&W #3 had the hammer notch's rebuilt.

Will drop off a 1921 Nitro Special in the spring for a tune up !

Will not go back to ahlmans, I went there for a trigger job on a pre accutrigger savage rifle. Asked for a 2# 8 oz setting, was told no problem and it was noted on receipt. When I picked it up it was set at 3.5# and was told they will not adjust below that, would not let me have the rifle until I paid for work that they never completed per agreement.

I’ve used Ahlmans a few times for relatively minor work...blueing, sight replacement, recoil pads, spring replacement, etc. They once fixed a gun for us on a trip to SD while we waited. We simply stopped on our way through on the off chance they could help us. No complaints about their work or prices. They have a lot of used guns and parts; it’s fun to sift through the racks. They also have an on site range.

Not a Ahlmans fan myself. Staff was very rude and prices too high. I use small town gun shops. Go to your local gun range and they should be able to direct you to a few gunsmiths in your area. Ahlmans has its fan boys but I will not give someone business who has attitudes like I have witnessed their.

I would go with Odenthal's Gunsmithing in Prior Lake MN. He does outstanding work. Have used him for over 20 years, from rebarreling, to trigger work, and hot blueing, porting. Great guy to work with.

Are you eastern or western mn?
There is a shop in Flandreau SD , just 35 miles or so north of Sioux Falls SD. He has threaded several for myself and buddies.
Let me know if you want his contact information.

I found a gunsmith that is going to thread my barrels next week. I will post a report afterwards if he is ok with it. Thanks for all the leads.
