H&R .243 bull barrel or not?

I plan on buying the h&r sb2 handi rifle in .243 and adding a 20ga rifled slug barrel. Should I get the .243 in bull barrel or is standard ok. I don't plan on shooting much over 200 yds maybe 300 on occasion at the local range.

I would highly recommend that you get a Stevens 200 instead of a Handi rifle. 2 out of 3 that my nephew had (that he dumped on me to work up loads for) were nothing but tomato stakes.

Pawn shops around here sell the 20ga mossburg pumps for around $135, also.

Good luck and Happy New Year!

It depends on what you want to do with the gun. If your calling alot with it don't get the bull barrel, but if your shooting varmints off a bench and you don't mind the extra weight while calling get the bull barrel.

yeah I was thinking the bull was overkill. I'll be shooting more target than anything. I'll use it for yotes and possibly deer in n.y. I guess I'll put more thought into my choices first.

I've gotta agree here. You can get old pumps around cheap.
CDNN has new Mossberg 500 12 ga. rifle sight smooth bores fore $198.00. the Steven's is hard to beat bang for buck.

I have both the H&R .243 SB2 ultra and the Stevens 200 in a .223. Both are excellent shooters. My .243 shoots a dime sized group at 100 yards and the Stevens shoot s quarter sized group. For packing a rifle I'd go with the Stevens. For shooting from a bench of vehicle I'd take the H&R .243.
Both of my rifle are deadly accurate. It's a matter of choice What are you going to use them for?

Here in jersey I cannot hunt with a rifle for any game so my primary use will be target shooting at the range mainly 100yds but up to 300yds max. I will have the ability to use it next fall in n.y. for yotes and deer if I choose to hunt there. What is the price range of the stevens rifle you spoke of? Would I prefer a bolt action for the range? (less movement on the bench from not breaking the rifle to reload)

I don't know what you would prefer ,but I would much rather have a bolt action over a single shot for any situation. The Stevens go for around $300.

another vote for the steven's. i to was going to buy the h&r, but the great folks here convinced me to get the stevens. it's nice having a extra shell if ya need it, although i rarely take a second shot. another plus with the steven's is a "somewhat" adjustable trigger, and replacement trigger's.
