H&R Handi Rifle

My brother has one of the newer .223's in a 9 twist that is his truck gun. He has killed quite a few coyotes and crows with it. I had an older one in a 12 twist and it was lucky to hold 2" at 100 yards.

I have one in 223 45/70. I haven't shot it in quite a while but it was a decent shooter. I bought one in 243, huge waste of time and money. After tinkering with it for ages, couldn't wait to get rid of it. 243 has a horrible rep in that rifle. For some reason they couldn't make it work.

I bought one back in about 1989 in 357 Max, Mag or 38's and a great gun to start younger hunter without much recoil. It has always shot good to 100 yards.

I picked up a used 223 barrel local last night, 100.00 bucks. Need to check twist rate, guy I bought it from was no sure.

MY current piece is in .22Mag. At 50 yards it will put 12 of 15 shots in a half in target dot from a bi-pod even with a trigger that could use some stoning. Good for groundhogs and other rodents here in PA.

Best regards,
chalmitch

would not take anything for my 223 truck handi-rifle...sure have killed a lot of groundhogs with it...tried to kill a yote last week but he was too fast for me

Is the Rossi .223 a heavy barrel synthetic model? Mine is and it's the only Rossi model I've heard about turning in consistent good groups. $179 at Dunhams, had to give it a shot at that price.
On the Handis, had one and several centerfire barrels, didn't have time to keep playing with them to get them to shoot consistently, liked the .444 though. Still own one, a .22 Mag Ultra, fun to shoot and it's surprising how many you put downrange in a hurry if you want to.

You should try shooting with it instead of chasing them down and using it like a club.

No it's an older youth model with the pencil barrel

Picked up a 223 barrel 1/12 twist, was hoping for 1/9. Whats a good factory load for this twist rate? Would like to fill my doe tag with this rifle. I saw Barnes has 55gr load that looks like it would do the job.
