H110 in the .17 Hornet

That's it. I want some decent speeds and less than factory pressure if possible. I shoot thousands of rounds of ammo during squirrel and prairie dog season most years. Some rimfire but most centerfire. This gets into some money as you can imagine. But if can find a centerfire round that is accurate, deadly, and saves me a bit of coin that's a good thing. If I can make the 500 or so rounds of brass that I have right now last me all spring next year that will be just fine with me. And really, it should because I doubt that I will be taking my new "Whore Gnat" every time I go as I have lots of fun guns to take out. But if it makes me chuckle in the field as much as it does at the range then I doubt that it will be staying home very often!

Well Russ, you better just plan on taking it all the time
. The first time you leave it home you will cry all day and I hate seeing a grown man crying.

Ok! I'll put my nice guy hat on and just read your reports until next spring. Enjoy that new toy.
I just refinished the stock on my 17 HH so I get to take it to the range for a tune-up, soon.

Still your friend in AZ.

I have allways found LILGIN to give the best velocities at about 3/4 the pressures.
Top end loads of H110/WW296 greatly shorten the case life of the thin webbed Hornet brass.

Thanks Jim. I have been wanting to try Lil Gun as for many years it was my favorite for my .221 Fireball and I have some on the shelf.

Do you have a favorite recipe with Lil Gun that you would like to share?

I guess the ONE thing you have to wach with LilGun is the pressure signs/spikes with top end loads. Just pay close attention to your primers.
bte LilGun is an greatagnum pistil powder with light bullets in 357 and 44 mags ..As well as 22 and 17 Hornets!

Be aware that light bullets and large amounts of powders is what causes a large amount of grief in revolvers.
I have visited with industry folks on the lilgun subject, some had never heard of any issues. That suprised me because the IHMSA crowd I run around with had seen issues the first year out with the stuff. FA flat voids the warranty of their wheel guns if this powder was used.

I have been staying up with this thread. I see mixed reviews with the 17HH and lilgun. It seems it goes from good to bad real quick? I am suspecting a bit to much compression?
H4198 is what I came up with for accuracy load. I have to use a drop tube and still am .5 grain off of their listed max, have no idea how they got it in there as it is full to the mouth.
