H110 vs Shooters World Heavy Pistol for 450 Bushmaster

Just for giggles I've decided to build an AR in 450 Bushmastet. I plan on loading my own ammo for it. I have quite a bit of H110, and almost full jug of SW Heavy Pistol. The two are pretty close together on the burn chart. Has anybody used these for the Bushmaser?

One of my friends used my bench to load his 450 and used Lil Gun as well as H110. If I remember correctly he was running 250gr bullets. He said later that the H110 fell a bit short on velocities but for everyday use on hogs under 100 yards it was just fine.

I've never loaded the 450 but he says that Lil Gun is the ticket. FWIW ........
 
Thanks! The problem I have with Lil Gun is cost and availability. Dang stuff is hard to find around here and about twice the dollars per pound as most of the ones that I can find. I already have a lot of the 110 and the Heavy Pistol.

And another observation: I killed 2 hogs with his 450 and that thing kicks like the proverbial mule.

I'll just take my 223 and 60 VMaxs and plan on ear shots, thank you.

Yeah, I’ve heard that. I did manage to score four pounds of Lil Gun at a reasonable price so I’m gonna use that.

Yeah, I’ve heard that. I did manage to score four pounds of Lil Gun at a reasonable price so I’m gonna use that.

work up to it, but watch for a very happy node right around 38 grains when loaded over a 450 or 7½ with 225 and 250gr projo's.

38.0 seems to be a magic weight with LG for the 450 and 250/225gr ftx pills.


wild part is, at 100 yds, no real noticeable POI/POA difference either. beautiful thing

Perfect! I'm going to be using 250 grain FTX bullets so you saved me from having to post a question about charge weight! You sir are a gentleman and a scholar!
 
its nothing a google search wouldnt have turned up, but glad to share.

like i said, work up in case your guns not happy with it, its only 0.1gr > than hornady published max in 11th edition.
 
The Hodgdon Reloading website says that 38.5 grains is max for Lil Gun and the Hornady FTX, so it looks like I'm safe. Thanks again!
 
I’ve used lil gun and H110 with cast bullets in my 450BM American before it fell apart from recoil and shooting.lol. Long story short Ruger replaced it with a gunsight scout and $$$ to boot out of pocket. I was getting 1.1” groups with 300 grain lee flat nose cast bullets driven at ludicrous speeds using lil gun. Never shot jacketed ammo through it. Loaded a bunch of FXTs but never shot them.
