H4831SC .280 Rem

I've been looking at reloading data for the .280 Rem and it seemed to have a lot of H4831SC listed. I didn't have any so I went down to the LGS and picked up a few lbs of it.

I would love to try 120gr Barnes TTSX or 120gr Nosler BT with it, but I have 130 gr. Speer BTSP and 140gr Sierra Game kings. Also some 100gr Hornady HP's and some 150 ELDXs.

Anybody have a specific bullet or weight they like with this powder?

Thanks

Do you really expect any of us to believe " I didn't have any so I went down to the LGS and picked up a few lbs of it."???? LOL.

Good score!

Is it hard to find? Well, I live in a somewhat small town in a somewhat remote area.

He had 5#'s of it along with some H1000, BL-c2, and some others. I know he had a lot of pistol powder, but didn't pay attention. Unique and Power Pistol were a couple. Who knows.

Well I'm glad I could get some then! Maybe I'll go get the other two lbs!

I shoot that powder in my 7x57 Mauser. It works great with 150gr ELDX bullets. I can't get enough of it in the case to get pressure.

2,660 fps with 51.0 grains.

I shoot a load right out of the nosler manual #4 with my remington 700:

58.5g of IMR 7828
Fed 210
160g sierra btsp or partition
2930 fps out of a 24" factory barrel

I have shot this load in several Remington rifles, and it is accurate!

160g BTSP maybe one of the best kept secrets in deer killing!

I have some 7828 sitting on the shelf. I may have to give that a try, especially if I draw an Elk tag this year.

I used to shoot the 165 Sierra from m .300 Wby and I liked the way that bullet performed.

I'm shooting a 1989 production tang safety Ruger M77. The free bore is tight compared to 700's, I'm not going to be able to seat that bullet out as far as you didn I'm sure of it.

Thanks for the info!

I lucked in to 5 lbs this summer at only $30 per pound OTD for my 7mm Rem Mag and my .280. Havent started load development yet but I will be running 140 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip in the .280
