went to pick up a trimmer today and the guy suggested this over the lee ones. I'm only doing it for 223 but maybe later id use the others. anyone use this model? it says comes with a case holder. so I wouldn't have to buy another shell holder for it right? its 10-15 more than the lee set up, just want something that will be easy to use/understand. Sorry link didn't post it's the Lyman hand trimmer kit. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/128681/lyman-e-zee-trim-hand-case-trimmer-rifle-set

Can I use the same trimmer for pistol?

I don't have the Lyman but I do have a couple of the Lee units like it and they work well when paired with my cordless drill. I prefer my rcbs bench mounted trimmer though. If money is tight, buy the Lee unit for the case you will trim now and upgrade down the road.

Straight walled cases ( pistol ) usually never need trimming. But if you have some pistol cartridges that do need trimming this trimmer should handle them. If money is tight you might think of this, Most times you can get 3-5 reloads out of brass before it needs to be trimmed, if you are not loading real hot. that gives you a little room to wait. Also there is now, many places you can get 223 brass that has been prepped cleaned and ready to Load, or ready to put a primer in, and then load. By going this route it will give you some time to load and shoot,(enjoy) then purchase what you would like later. Believe me, you will want something that can trim quickly, and straight. Be sure to bevel the edges after trimming. Wilson makes a great little chamfer tool. chamfer the inside and outside, just a little. Outside so that they load easily, and inside so that accuracy is not hurt, and bullet loads easier.

I just use the old RCBS hand crank case trimmer. Had it for over 40 years. I don't imagine it is as fast as the electric ones. It still does a nice job and it has paid for itself many times over.

Dang boy,"I just use the old RCBS hand crank case trimmer".

Take the handle off and attach a variable 1/2" variable speed drill, Trim 6 per minute...dang!!!

Lyman and RCBS have a 1/2" spindle, just tighten a 1/2" variable speed drill on the shaft, and call it done!

RCBS does make a carbide replacement cutter also if you want to trim about a million cases!!

The very best variable speed trimmers have the speed control in the front of the trigger, NOT the further you press it in the faster it gets...that type is no good.

I took the Lee and had the cutter end drilled so that fits on a power port of my RCBS case prep center. The Lee style trimmer always trims to the same length, and it's easy to use while doing the other case prep jobs. The different shafts are very inexpensive, and easy to interchange. The machine does the work and my fingers don't get blisters.
