The glocks will give you the option of quickly converting to other calibers by just switching the barrel. You can probably get new barrels for your gun in canada with no hassle I would think. I would pick the 10mm glock g-20.

The reason for this is its the strongest most powerful platform and you can put on less powerful calibers no problem. However you cannot make your .357 sig or .40 SW glock into a 10mm. 10mm would also make for good protection from wild animals that might be useful in canada even though i realize your talking target shooting.

You can get .40 s&w, .357 sig, and 9x25 dillon. THey all work in the same 10mm magazine. barrels cost between 100 and 200 depending what brand you want. There is one more barrel but can't remember. Its made by lonewolf but not on the website. Maybe its called .38 super? Can't recall the name but I know there is 1 more.

All glocks you can also get a .22lr conversion kit. the kit is about 250 dollars. The advantage arms kit is a good way to get some cheap practice in.

This versatility is what seperates the glock from other guns and its known to be reliable and they are cheap. If being able to shoot other calibers is not important then there are tons of guns to pick from and many of them may be more accurate right out of the box then a glock.

Newer Glocks now come with the interchangable backstraps. In .40 and 9mm so far. Barrel length on these are 4.49 inches I think.
