Looking for some input on this rifle. good, bad, the ugly. May have a good deal on a new one, wondering if its worth it? Its use would be for deer, hoping to go bear hunting sometime. And just because!! Thanks

Depends onthe price. The round is a bit much for deer, enough for the big bears but most guides won't be happy seeing a single shot.

35 Whelen is a heck of a round for all big game. Packs quite a wallop. I gave my Rem 760 pump to my son for a graduation present. It was a tack driver with my reloads. Only problem was the clips wouldn't snap in sometimes. Had to watch that so you wouldn't lose a clip.. Rudy

Handi rifles seem to be hit and miss. 35 whelen will get it done one everything in NA. A 225 at 2450 should be great big deer, moose and bear medicine.

Like all single shots fore end bedding is the issue. If you dont like the grouping you can file down the the ridges inside of the forearm. Do not tighten the fore end screw tight. Just enough that it does not wobble around. 1 good shot trumps 2 bad ones.

The 35 whelen is a great cartridge for any north american game. The handi rifle is a great rifle but since production stopped there prices have gone up up up . If you can get it for agood price say under 250 snatch it up. Some of the more sought after handis are bringing 500 plus.
