Has anyone tried the Burris Eliminator?

One of my best buddies and my main calling partner had one on for last season. It was ok, but it was pretty tough to get ranges on yotes at 350+ or so yards....as a result, he was always trying to range hills or trees around the yote which was a pain. This season he ended up taking it off and putting it on his big game rifle and put a vortex viper on his yote gun. The eliminator worked great for big game, but from what I've seen and heard from him (just one guys opinion obviously) its not at all worth the $'s for a yote set-up.
 
A suggestion: get better glass for your custom, and then get a range finder.

If the laser or scope in the Eliminator goes bad, then you don't have a laser or scope while it's in for repairs.
 
Ya I have ruled out the eliminator. I think that I'm gonna send my load and ballistics into leupold and have them put the dots in a scope for me. I have spent the money on the gun no reason to scimp on the scope.
 
I think the thought of the laser going bad on this scope would be a reason to not even have it on a big game rifle.
Too big of a chance for failure.
I agree with a Leupold and a good rangefinder!
 
FEAR NOT _ BUY THIS SCOPE

I just bought my second Burris Eliminator. It will go on a second varmint rifle that I bought just because - you all know the desease. Anyway, I have told everyone that is interested, shooting this scope is the MOST FUN I have ever had shooting and I have 50 years experience. Really, it should be illegal it is that addictive.

I have it mounted on two .223 rifles. I use them for ground squirrels, prairie dogs, woodchuch, crows and coyote. I am shooting Hornady V-max and I am super satisfied. It may not be a scope that you want to carry around stalking all day due to weight, but when the time comes to find, range and shoot, the satisfaction of hitting that first shot is paramount.

For voulme shooting, such as prairie dogs, it is almost one shot one kill. I reduced my total ammunition use to about 30% of what I would shoot before using a higher powered mil-dot scope. I know how to range with a mil-dot but it was still never as accurate as this scope. The lower magnification from what I previously used was a concern before I bought my first Eliminator, but I really never noticed it.

You want verification before you plunk down that kind of money? Here it is! I'll say it again. This is the most fun I ever had shooting. I attribute it to the scope.
 
One other comment - I easily range prairie dogs out to 450 yards and they are small. I have ranged a rock or a fence post or a tree close to a prairie dog also when the mass of the target was not enough to get a reading. I do not agree that it would not pick up a yote at 300 yards at all. I have picked up small birds at that range and turned them into a black mist!
 
This is very good information....my brother is looking into one of these for one of his AR10's and by what I am reading here, he won't be dissapointed at all.

I love mine!

I have not missed a Coyote with it yet and i can range a Coyote at 300+ yards, i dont shoot it because i usually get them closer so i dont have to walk an additional 600 yards!

300 yards out and 300 yards back!

I make the coyotes come to me.
 
I heard that they are fine for Big Game (deer, Elk etc) but not so good for groundhogs, PDog's! Any one have experience ranging a hog at 400yds.?

I am about to get one for my 22-243 Win. I built it for my long range coyote gun, just for those that hang wayyyyyyy out there..Buddy has two and loves them..One is on his .220 swift the other is on his AR .223.
 
I almost bought one; I called Burris about the warranty. I was told one year on electic’s. That is not much. I bought a nice Leupold for $600 and a $200 Leupold range finder. I can use the range finder for bow hunting and rifle. I also give’s the angle of my shot.
 
The warranty on the electronics is 3 years, not 1 year. The rest of the scope is covered forever.

SteveK, conditions can make Pdogs and such a bit tougher to pick up but for the most part you won't have any problems out to 400 yards. 500 yards will be tough but 400 will give you good results. Make sure you talk to someone that has actually used one and not someone that heard it from someone that heard if from someone. There's a ton of false information floating around about this scope right now.

Evan, glad you are having such a good time with the Eliminator. It's funny how many times I've had someone tell me that this scope "takes the fun out of it." You and I must be of the same pool because I also think that hitting a 400 yard prairie dog or a 700 yard gong on the first shot is pretty stinking fun.

Burris why is the Eliminator a lot higher at like around $900 at Cabelas, sheals, optics planet,etc. But other places or guys that sell them they are priced about $200-275 lower ? I can get one for $600.00
 


I called Burris and the man told me 1 year. That was when the new one came out. The guy I talked to must have the truck driver. LOL Waste of money for a toy scope

I talked with the guy today about the eliminator. He told me that nothing changed about warranty still has factory warrenty. But at a lower price....

Thats still a lot of money for a scope. I'm not sure what to do yet..
