Has Anyone Tried the New Ruger LCP?

I need a smaller carry gun and have been looking at this in my gun store for a few weeks. Does anybody have any experience with them? Fit's in front pocket fairly easily. With or without laser. I know Santa is coming soon and bringing gift cards with him. Now if only he would bring enough for my Rock River, a pistol, and maybe a .17..........Santa?

I got one for my old lady... It's an OK pistol. It's plenty small & light. The trigger is VERY similar to that of a double action revolver pull (LONG heavy travel) which is expcted & probobly most safe. I am 6'3" and have larger hands. I just about can't shoot it. Unless I us the tip of my finger I run out of "stroke" before the sear drops, due to it being so small (a man can't touch the base of his thumb with his pointer finger knuckle).

Another friend also has one & both have functioned 100%. Hers has been shot ~100 times & my buds ~250. With plinking loads its neat but with full power loads its rather snappy especially for a lady. My girl doesn't care much for it. I'm barley OK with it. Unless needing to carry something as small as possible; I'd rather have a different gun. It would beat the #&!! out of a sharp stick if it was needed though!

I see no reason to buy one with a laser. Spend that money on a better gun

if i recall coleridge's is pink

LOL

I had one and concur with everything he said. Its a snappy little gun but would definatly work better than nothing and would deter most assaliants in my opinion

I have a Stainless slide, black poly frame, version that I
don't believe is in production at this time. Had it a little
over a year. I am a NRA Pistol/CC Instructor, that uses
the pistol as a demo pistol, and I carry it concealed, in
shorts and t-shirt weather, in the front pocket of my
shorts. The pistol has fired close to 1000 rounds, and
so far the pistol has been 100% reliable with my
hand loads, and the limited factory ammo, it has fired.
It hides well in my pocket, without a pocket holster(kind of
prints like a cell phone), and has good accuracy at personal
defense ranges(

I had a bad experience with one. Initially I was excited about my new little pocket rocket. It shot pretty well to point of aim and functioned perfectly. Then it broke a major part in the trigger linkage at round count 177. It went back to Ruger for a fix. A month after I got it back from the factory from that it was recalled for a safety overhaul. It made another trip to Ruger. When it came back for some reason it was no longer reliable. Before the second trip to the factory the little popper ran through everything I put through it with no troubles. Not any more, it couldn’t go through a couple of magazines without choking. I lost faith in it and sold it for more money than I paid for it. Pretty aggravating though it didn’t cost me anything other than some ammo and time. I’m back to my Airweight S&W snubbie and don't miss the LCP.

I have a .45 but I find it's just too big to carry, especially down here where we don't wear a lot of bulky Winter type clothes. Makes it hard to conceal. My hands aren't huge either so I'm looking at medium size frames. Haven't passed on a revolver yet, but I like the idea of the small Ruger's, or another type that size. I don't want to break the bank on one. As long as it fires every time I pull the trigger and is accurate within reason I don't care what brand is on the side.

Kel, after needing to downsize my carry rig due to my work clothing and wanting to carry all day, every day, I also shopped long and hard for a quality .380.

I started with the Kel-Tec - it's just not a very good looking pistol, but budget-priced.

I then went to the gun show with money in my pocket - ready, willing, and able to buy the Ruger LCP. I ended up with a Diamondback DB .380. It's the most expensive of the 3 - I think I paid $365.00, but the fit, finish, and quality is impressive. It reminds me of a cross between a Kahr and a Glock as far as design and quality appearance.

Like has been mentioned with the Ruger, it has a loooooong DA trigger pull and it does not have a hold open mechanism after the last round has been fired. Beyond that, I'm very happy with it. Good luck in your search and let us know what you come up with.

GC, when you say a "safety overhaul" what are you referring to? I didn't even think they had a safety.

Yep, that's the one! It doesn't get much use because she never "took" to it. It's never left the house more than 1-2 times.

I did carry it on some shotgun "man drive" deer hunts end of last year; & did dispatch a -broke down- deer with it. Wished I had got a "Hero" photo with it layed on the deer (the pink would have really shined

). The 90gr gold dot is enough that I wouldn't want to get hit in the head with it!

If size is the #1 factor in your decision, with cost being in there as well... I think it would be hard pressed to find a better more reliable pistol. It just comes with a few little twerks. Revolvers are nice but NO-WHERE near as compact.

I carry one along with a .40 and like it.

It is what it is.

A close range self defense pistol designed for backup or a last result little killer when you know your life is in danger.

Mine has always ran flawlessly.

I have the LCP-CT 380, easy to carry, I got it sighted in for around 20 FT with the CT, shoots remarkably well for such a little pistol. Even my 13 Year Old grandson can put them in a 3 Inch circle at 20 FT.

Love the CT.

Evidently after the first run it was discovered there might be the possibility that the pistol would fire if dropped on a hard surface. Ruger recalled them and changed something to make them more fumble safe.

Good info, I guess I'll keep the LCP in my mind and wait to see if Santa was fooled into thinking I was that good this year.

I thought that was just on the LC9? Learn something new everyday.

Chupa, the LC9 had the same issue. Ruger took complete care of the situation with my LCP with very little trouble to me. They issued a call tag for UPS and had it picked up at my door and delivered back here in about two weeks for the safety recall. The dealer that I purchased it from sent it back when it broke the first time at no charge to me. Ruger repaired it and turned it around in a couple weeks that time also. My problem was that when it was returned it wasn't 100% reliable like it had been before and I just didn't want to mess with sending it back a third time. A guy offered me more money than I paid for it, even after I told him of my experiences with it, so I let him have it and moved on. I don't know how it worked out for him but he never contacted me afterward complaining about anything so I guess he worked it out. He knew of the history of the gun and my trouble with the reliability of it "as is" before he bought it but man he really wanted that little gun bad.

yeah that is cause my son is a good shot! lol

I love my LCP. I am 5'8'' and 200 lbs. with medium sized hands and have no trouble hitting what I am aiming at. In fact, a few weeks ago, a few of us from work went into the desert outside of Vegas to do a little shooting, and saw a coyote watching us from a few hundred yards away. The only weapon I had that I could get to fast was my carry gun, so I stopped and tried my luck. I didn't hit it, but the guys said the bullet hIt the ground about a foot in front of it and he hitailed it to another county! It conceals very nicely in the front or back pocket, and I also have a small ankle holster that works well. Most of the time, I forget I have it with me. I really think you will like it.

I got one it is perfect for what is intended for Concealment, point and shoot for an oh sh.. moment. I have shot a few rounds through mine and have not had one misfire and that is trying all different kinds of ammo. To me not having a misfire is the most important thing in a back up weapon. I've tried everything and still no misfire.

I have one that I carry in the truck. I also carry a coach gun. Of the two, the Ruger is the only one that will fit in my pocket. I carry it a lot and have absolute confidence in it. It's head and shoulders above a .32, .25, .22 or any lesser caliber.
