Have you ever tried CALLING a GROUNDHOG ?

I'm just curious if these little guys would come out of their hiding, if they're called at? I have never tried it. I have a Minaska U1 with a groundhog distress sound and might try it next week when our season opens. I have a barn and some old out buildings that the hogs have been hanging around and thought maybe instead of waiting to ambush, I'll try some good 'ol distress and see if I get any takers! What do you think?

The pups can be pretty stupid. Would not surprise me to see some of them stick a head up enough to get the crosshairs on it. Report back, pics required.

I have killed in the nabiourhood of 1000 hogs that lifted there head out of the hole to see what the fuss was all about...I have used there whistle, bunny in distress, coyote
howl, halk screem and even a fox 40!
give it a go

I couldn't say about most calls but a loud, shrill whistle could get them standing up, loooking around.

The young ones always fell for it.

I don't think you can call a groundhog in the way we think of calling, like with predators, but you can get their attention and cause them to stand up and take a look. Many times we have whistled when the pigs were down in the grass, and had them stand up to look the situation over, offering a good shot. That is a trick we use quite often. They don't come running toward the call, however.
