Haven't Seen Too Many 6.5 PRC Rifles

Comparisons:

6.5 CM: 52-53 gr case capacity
6.5 SLR: 55-56 gr
6.5 PRC: 66-67 gr
6.5 SAUM: 70-71 gr

The PRC has 25% more capacity than a creedmoor, and 5-6% less than a SAUM. In quickload, holding pressure constant at 57k psi in a 26" barrel with 140 hybrids, a 6.5 SAUM (H1000) is about 30-40 fps faster than a 6.5 PRC (H1000), and the PRC is 220 fps faster than a 6.5 creedmoor (H4350).

Good comparison specs.

I listened to a podcast on the 6.5 PRC where Aaron Davidson was interviewed. He basically said that Hornady introduced the 6.5 PRC because it performs like the popular 6.5x284 but can have precision factory ammo. The 6.5x284 has been a wildcat so long there are to many versions to make a factory load that will work in all of them. The PRC can do that.

As far as performance the rifle that's been my primary interior decorator is a 264 win mag I had built years ago. The rifles name is Maggie and my second daughter is named after this rifle. I've been shooting a 140gr bullet from this rifle since I built it, first an Accubond at 3000fps and now a Berger at 2914fps. It does not like hot loads, but it is very accurate and consistent at this level, plus my barrel should last longer. I've been very happy with it, no animal has gone far after getting a 140 to the vitals. The great BC and manageable recoil make it easier for me to get the bullet to the vitals too. If I didn't already have this 264 I'd be looking hard at the 6.5 PRC already. As it is I'll get this barrel shot out before I worry about making a change.

The 6.5x284 is a wildcat? And no factory ammo?

There is ammo, but they said a company like Hornady won't tackle it due to liability and inability to make factory ammo with precise enough tolerances for long range. There is the 6.5x284 Norma that got standardized plus who knows what all was built by gunsmiths with slightly different dimensions.

Just repeating what I heard on the podcast on why they helped design the new cartridge.
