hearing protection during hunting

Any Of you guys ever tried those hearing aids that let you hear normal but block the gun blast if so do they work, I was looking at the ear inc mini canal and it is pretty expensive so I would like to know if these things work. I want to use them when im hunting

I have used the cheapo hollow plugs that have a diagram that closes when you shoot. When can hear fine (just a hair muffled) till you shoot and it suppresses the gun shot.

They work pretty well.

1234a,I am glad you are thinking about your hearing.I could probably still hear pretty good if it was not for all the ringing.I used protection on the range,I'm thinking if I could do it over I would use plugs and covers.I did not think I shot enough hunting to matter.I was wrong.Get the best protection you can buy.Fair hearing aids start at 4000 each and don't stop the ringing.

you can get electo earmuffs fairly cheap now, i saw some in a cabelas flyer that said they increase low DB sounds up to 3 times and cut off after like 80 db i think. they were only like 60 bucks! think i might get a pair to try at the range(backyard) dont know how they would work in the woods, seems like a good idea particularly for High volume hunting situations, like i duck blind with 4 12 gauges goin off

I have used Howard leights for a while now, when at the range I use plugs as well, when hunting, just the muffs.

They work, plain and simple they do what they say. As far as expensive in the ear models, I'd like to run them, but the coin eludes me.

Walkers game ear. Never used them, but I guess they work.

I use protection at the range, but never in the field. I am old school. Too many gadgets these days... just to shoot while hunting.

Thanks for the responses guys I think I am going to get them , my hearing already suffered a little so I think I better take care of what I got

I don't use protection either...Taks the fun out of it..

I have a set of howard lites for each of us and use them all the time. The only problem is that when the wind is blowing you have to turn them down. Also when you have a hood or something similar on you get some feedback through the mics. But i won't go hunting without them.

I never did like to wear ear protection while hunting or if I was going to just take one shot, but I now think in some cases it only takes one shot to do damage.I know I shot a groundhog with a .44 once and never noticed till I had shot but I was under a sycamore fully leafed out with low branches and I think I got some ringing that never went away. The ringing ain't so bad till you start thinking about hearing it for the next 30 or more years.

I also use the Cabelas electronic hearing muffs..$25 I think...They work good..IMO....Use them at the Pdog towns. Never calling coyotes..

Coyotklr I use to agree with you, but the guy I hunt with his hearing is horrible and when hunting it isn't a big deal but outside of hunting at social events you have to scream at him to have a conversation gets real old, we hunt coyotes for 4 months strait in the winter and I cantell its starting to take a toll

Every single shot, even from a 22LR without protection is depleting your hearing. If you want hearing loss and tinninitis, go for it, your choice?

50 years ago it was possible to claim ignorance for your loss. Not now. You must always use protection or suffer loss. Period.

Got my AWC .30cal Thundertrap yesterday and i am having 2 barrels threaded today!!!

.243 Remington Bolt & Bushmaster .223 Varminter special

Woot Woot!!!

I use Peltor Tactical 6-5, I like them, I can wear my hat. They fit over the back of my neck not over the top of my head. I need to wear my hat.

Over 59,000 artillery rounds in '67 and '68 kinda did my ears in. I've had Tintinitis ever since, to varying degrees. Now I wear Peltor hearing protection at the range and while groundhog shooting, but not while Deer or Turkey hunting.

I figure, probably wrongly, that the occasional single shot at a Deer can't make matters much worse and I can't imagine hunting Turkeys with earmuffs on.
