For those of you that have gone from hand held scanners to helmet mount, how did the transition go?
I am mostly concerned about going from 3.0 base mag to 1.0 base mag. Just looking for some input on on the magnification and how far you are able to pick up coyotes with 1.0 base mag?
I understand that I don't have to run 1.0 base mag.
I currently have a Nocpix Vista 35R and love but my old shoulders are starting to dislike it.

i dont have a helmet mounted thermal scanner but from what i read with a 1.0 base mag you can walk and scan while moving into position a whole better than you can with a 3.0 or 3.5 base mag.
 
I ran 1.4 base (384) for 4 yrs then a Rix stride 1.0 since Jan '24. Miss nothing with the 1.0.
I tried a helmet and it did not work for me-a real 'shit show' as "Big Lou" put it today šŸ˜Š.
I have always run my scanners on a selfie stick which I set the end into a "pocket" I made from 1" plastic pipe and zip tied to my chest pack. I don't hold the wt. of the scanner at all, just keep it from falling away from my eye.
 
To me it was hands down the way to go. It never failed when I was hand scanning Iā€™d drop my thermal (a rifle scope I wasnā€™t using anymore) on the ground or it would fall out of my pocket. The only issue since I went to a helmet mount was usually by the end of the night my head hurt from tightening it too much. The transition from putting a handheld into my pocket vs just flipping up an arm on the helmet and transitioning to the rifle was much faster and vice versa. As far as going from a higher magnification to a 1.0 it was negligible IMO.
