HELP Cougar on my farm

I kill at least my share of lions ,shortails and yotes each year.I guided in the mid west for years and had to deal with wolves also.I am no stanger to predators,but also the first guy to say they have a "right to life". BUT,"They need to be controlled". A heathy population of predators is good,but an over population of them turns honest men into outlaws.We as stewards of game will protect our stock,(be it wild or domestic),at any cost.This is why wolves in MN ARE SHOT ON SITE,AND LIONS AND BEARS ARE STILL RUN WITH DOGS THRU OUT THE COUNTRY.It may or may not be legal,but there is a certain segment of hunters that feel "Gods Law",holds more weight than what some guy in a suit sets forth,as to what is right and wrong.

Duane, I don't know about Oregon. But it's illegal in Washington and makes it really hard for a caller to get a cat in without mountaineering skills and equipment. (Interpret, a LONG ways from the roads in deep snow.)
If it was legal, I'd do it myself. It's not. I call Fish and Wildlife every time I observe it. A poacher is a poacher.

I learned another eastern WA cougar behavior. I was talking to another farmer I know to get permission to call cats on his place. And he told me about his friends lower down the river from my place. The crazy cats are sitting on hay stacks. (they find the paw prints on the tarps) I think they are waiting for mice, and whatever else comes along. Puts a whole new meaning to the phrase "Honey I'm heading out to feed the stock.) You are right, lowland cats are developing a whole new cougar behavior pattern in adapting to this semi-arid rural, urban interface found in my neck of the woods. I love watching animals and learning their behavior.

Elvis is Back
Heard him talkin to himself across the river from my house last night. He won't cross the river, for now cuz it's still really high. I hope he behaves himself until I get back form Alaska in August.
