Help me build my first custom rifle!

cayotehunter,
I am having a full custom built right now and I am also having a Rem 700 turned into a "semi" custom. Think of this. Start with a Remington 700 of your choice, you should be able to pick one up used for $4-500. My 'smith will true the action and install a Shilen select SS bbl in the contour of your choice for $680. This includes cerakote in the color of your choice. Then put the scope of your choice on. You can get a high quality scope like a 3-9X40 Leupold VX3 or Zeiss Conquest for $500 or less. Now you are just over your $1500 mark. Next year you can save up and upgrade the factory stock to a Mcmillan or HS, put a Jewell or Timney in it, and you will have a semi custom rifle just for you.
The best advice I can give you is to buy high quality components all the way through. Value will be remembered long after price is forgotten. There is nothing wrong with Shaw bbls and that will make your build less expensive, I was just giving you another option on a barrel.
Good Luck and have fun! Prepare to spend a lot of money because your first build won't be your last!

so if you guys have suggestions on quality parts that might be cheaper or the best deal I would love to hear those! My budget is about $1500 or so with optics. Any info or opinions offered are really appreciated! Thanks guys

Not sure you can build a custom for that small amount of money.

If you can I am not sure you can get the barrel, stock, and action ordered and received by the end of summer.

Yep, my first custom build I am into it $5500. The scope was $1525 alone...

If you want cheap and accurate, go the Savage route.

You could probably do most of the work yourself and still have as accurate a gun as anything out there. Or at least as accurate as I could should. (I'm not good. LOL)
