Ok, I currently own 2 shotguns a SxS 12ga. W/3" chambers and fixed mod/full chokes. The second is a mossberg 500 in 20ga. I need (want) to add another to the stable.
Priorities for this new gun are in this order;
1. coyotes
2. geese
3. ducks
Auto W/3.5" chamber ????
pump W/3" chamber ???
Open to sugestions, makes ,models??
Anything I should stay away from???

DEFINATELY a mossberg 835 ultimag waterfowl edition (if you want a pump) or a mossberg 935 waterfowl edition (if you want an automatic) both have the 28'' barrels which would be GREAT for geese and the yotes..both will shoot 3.5'' and both made here in the us and are great quality and great guns..i own the 835 waterfowl edition..its no the new one its the first one they came out with..and if i ever get another shotgun thats what i will get. never had a hangup on me or any problem out of it..and i have put thousands of rounds thru it dove hunting and duck hunting..this is definately the way to go.

Benelli... simply the best semi-auto. Beretta... very close second. All others come in turd... ahh, I meant third.

In pumps the Remington 870, Browning BPS, and Mossberg's hold about the same ratings as above. Any others are distant runners.

I had an 835 and it really was a decent gun but I never cared for the tang mounted safety so I sold it and bought another Remington. I now have 3 Remington shotty's and Im pretty happy with them all.

I purchased a Beretta 590 on a friends advice and I couldn't be happier. I'd always wanted an auto shotgun to use for everything (crow, turkey, deer). I've also added a hastings slug barrel and scope. Cant wait for deer season!! I have no experience with the other auto guns.

The Mossberg 930 automatic is a sleeper. I have one based on a report I read. They tested the 930 on an Argentina dove hunt and it functioned flawlessly.

It swings like an 1100 and has been 100% reliable. I paid $400 out the door.

IMHO the 3.5 12 gauge is just marketing hype.

Stoeger shotguns are made by Benelli, They ae like the stevens line is to savage I think. Same inertia drive autoloading mechinisim, without all the bells and whistles. I buddy from work has one and for the price I may buy one next.

What's wrong with the Benelli Nova and Super Nova....?

Just curious..... - BCB

Mossberg would be fine if you dont mind toting around the extra weight.

Personally I would choose the Benelli I have always had at least one of them since they have been out!

Good luck with your search!

Look at the Mossberg 835 Tactical Turkey it has a 20" barrel and a collapsing stok like an AR comes camoed perfect gun for yotes and it has a 3.5" chamber. From what I am hearing the 835 essentially is a 10 Ga. But shoots 3.5" 12 ga shells They are a bit pricey for a mossberg around 600 bucks but that is way less than a bennelli or barretta

I just got a benelli M1 for 400 bucks. Look around a bit and you can find a find a top of shelf gun for price the "bargain" guns which are often anything but a bargain.

What is your price range ? If your looking for a top shelf autoloader that won't give you any problems than that's the Benelli SBE II. Winchester SX2 being a distant 2. I've heard both good and some bad about the Stoeger 2000.

If you wanted to go pump gun rout. I'd say look into a 870. Been around forever and in my opinion better design than the Benelli Nova.

Just my thoughts. I've had bad experience with Mossberg's so not going to say anything about them. I personally shoot a SBE II for waterfowl when a reliable autoloader is handy. But I have a 11-87 that patterns awesome for turkey that I use. The 11-87 can be prone to cycling problems though from time to time. That's why I didn't suggest that.

Best of luck on your purchase.

To me a shotgun is all about how it "feels and handles". I had a Nova and didn't like how it 'felt'. It worked well though.
I really like 870 Remingtons BUT I hate the Express line, get a "Wingmaster" same design but it is finished, it'll kill you to paint the beautiful finish on the wingmaster tho!! Handle them both, there is no comparison.

I am going to look for a Benelli semi-auto, see if I can find a cheap one, I also have two 11-87's that I like realy well.

Go to stores and handle the guns, one will just feel right to you.

BB,
Regarding the Nova, I basically forgot about it. Personally, I don't care for them, however, they do seem to work well and many guys like the Nova a lot. I guess I was thinking of guns I have a lot of experience with, which is why I forgot the Nova.

I saw a really nice camo M1S90 for sale on another site LNIB for $750. I'll see if I can find that again and post the link here - if it isn't sold already.

benelli SBE is the only way to go for an auto shotgun IMO. ive had an SBE for a couple years now and it is the best shotgun i have ever owned or shot, and ive shot alot of em. I sued to shoot skeet and trap tournaments a few times a month and my SBE 2 has never disappointed. I hunt with some guys that have the original black eagle from back when H&K were importing them, they have been to srgentina(sp) many times and if i could guess have atleast 10k rounds through them, with nary a problem. They are worth the estra money in the long run and are perfect for what you need, and as far as pumps go the remmy 870 or a mossberg 500/835 are the best made
