Help me transition my AR to be a coyote setup...

Two things I'd like to change:
1. Optics - what should I get for budget friendly thermal
2. Suppressor - what's a good suppressor for a .223/5.56 hunting situation

Suppressor:
I'll run the Otter Creek Plutonium, or my Omega .300 the OCL does do better than the Omega. The OCL was obtained to take over the Omega role on that host it does a really good job at that.

:) Budget friendly and thermal can not be used in the same sentence. Buy once, cry once. You WILL NOT be happy with budget friendly (256, 384). Take it from a 256, 384, and ultimately a 640 reliable user source. Once you start zooming one of the lower resolution thermal units, the visible "picture" goes right in the toilet. Save up for a better unit, then buy.

From your list, ditch the $50 compensator, you're wanting a can anyway, No need for $60 back up iron sights (if you really want them, send me your address, I have a box full. You can have 2 or 3 of them if you want) The $330 Vortex you don't need nor the $40 optics mount. There's nearly $500 towards your 640 res thermal.

Don what would you get for a can and thermal? I'm all for buying a good value and crying once

Personally, I would look at a flow-through type suppressor like a Huxwrx Flow. That will help keep gas out of your face and allow your AR to run smoother.

As for a thermal, I agree with Don_P. You want a 640 resolution. I would look for something in the used market. People upgrade all the time, and fortunately / unfortunately (depending on if you're buying or selling), used thermals don't hold their value very well.

study up on the Oneleaf MT1000 scope. Only time will tell BUT I drank the 'cool aid', bought the 50mm as a back-up/loaner and am not sure if the thermion xg50 is going back on the 243.

I WISH I could have a suppressor. Can't have one here in NY, don't know a thing about them because of that. ....other than I want one..:(

when i changed my AR into a coyote killer, i added a:

1. 20 inch super sniper barrel from wilson combat in 223 wylde with a 1:8 twist
2. rock river arms two stage trigger
3. bering optics super yoter
4. yhm turbo t-2 suppressor

My AR's and prairie dog rifles have full auto rated suppressors(rapid shooting). Thermal base magnification should match your expected shooting distance. Under 100 yards, 2-2.5x , longer shots 3.0x +. Less zooming, clearer images. How much use I think an important consideration, think warranty and nights hunting. I certainly wouldn't want 50$+ a night tied up in a thermal(over warranty life). With low fur prices used thermals have lost value. For some a digital nightvision scope could be a better option(also allows positive ID of animals).

Don_P is correct. You won't be happy with a cheap thermal unit. The difference is staggering. I bought a 256 resolution thermal and at any distance or magnification the image went in the toilet. Also depending on how you hunt you might want a scanner so you're not constantly having to look through the rifle scope. Ease into it. The used market is great for finding something at a decent price. A decent tripod is also great to help you with shots and to have the rifle ready to go. Keep asking questions and refining your process and gear. Best of luck and happy hunting.

Might look at the Mars Oneleaf mini. I comes (IIRC) with an angle mount so the scope would work also.
hold up on that purchase
They are working alot of bugs out of the mini currently .

I'm working with them directly on the issues
They are no good beyond 200 yards currently

Get the MT1000 if you get anything
I own 3 of them with the 55 and 75 mm lenses .

If you do buy one use Firebynight code during purchase on their website for another 5% off

Don what would you get for a can .......
I'd probably get 3 to 5 in the state pen if I had one. Possession here in New York (where I reside) is a felony and one of states in the US still governed by numbskulls. To be fair, there is a senator that introduced a bill to legalize possession but I don't see it going any further than where it is right now...... stalled in committee. :(

Suppressor..
I own 18 of them .
Done plenty of testing with meters
The AB raptor 10 ring is hard to beat
The Aero Lahar L is a top performer for the $$

Currently I'm waiting on an Exigent defense vanish for 5.56 and my 20 calibers .
Definitely one you should research .

Wow - I have so much research to do!

Thanks guys! My time will be spent youtubing these optics

Suppressors that I want to look at: OCL Polonium K, YHM Turbo K-RB, Bannish, 223, any others I should consider?

I have an InfiRay GL35 thermal…it’s a 384 and I have been able to see fox up to around 600yds in good conditions with low humidity. I paid around $1900 for it brand new, I don’t really have any complaints with it other than not having LRF…Battery life has been very good. It has an internal battery, and easily changed auxiliary batteries…I can run an 8hr night and still have half life on the auxiliary and not run the internal at all. Also has capability of an external battery.
Image is as good as my partners RIX Leap 3 LRF.
I haven’t ever looked through a 640, I’m sure it’s better, but I don’t seem to have any issues with Identifying or spotting with the 384. For me it works great.
Prices are def coming down as technology progresses and competition increases. It’s almost as bad as cell phones etc…6 months and it’s obsolete

my 1st thermal was an AGM Adder TS50-384 with a base mag of 4x and when using the PIP feature never needed to zoom, this was a great scope for coyote hunting with NO buyers remorse.
My suppressor is a LAHAR 30 from Aero Precision and again no buyers remorse. Google PEW science suppressors and do your research on a suppressor.
