Help! Nady 151 questions...

I'm ready to convert my homemade e-caller to wireless but I'm having a problem! I cut the microphone off the transmitter on my Nady 151, wired in a jack to hook to the mp3 player, but get mucho static when I play it. You can faintly hear the call going, but really mostly static is all you get. The radio shack amp just makes it worse.

Right now each component runs off it's own power so I don't think that's a problem... Could it be in trying to wire in the jack where the microphone used to be? And what would be the fix if that is the problem? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Thanks!

Check your batteries. Then, How was the reception/sound before you hacked it? If it was good, then you may have a solder bridge somewhere. Check good with a magnafier glass.

If the sound was good before, try jumpering the mic to the 3.5mm plug you installed. If your sound is still good, then it's in the player or connection to the player. You also might need to seperate the transmitter and reciever a little way whils testing.

Maybe doesn't help solve your dilemma, but I'm just curious, Pyledriver: the Nady 151 VR/LT I bought new last year came with a lavalier microphone that attaches via a locking 3.5mm plug. Are the new ones now being shipped with a hardwired mic now or did you get something other than this model?

Thanks AEH, I'll try the things you've mentioned. I'm pretty sure it will turn out to be something simple... My sound was clear with the microphone so I know the thing *should* work.

Lionho-that model is Nady 151VR LT-ST. I bought it on ebay and don't know how old it is. I wish it had the jack connector but I've seen other homemade jobs that started with ones like mine that the mike was hardwired.

Thanks, and I'll keep y'all 'posted'!

Well shoot-none of that worked. I separated the wires just to be sure, and put the receiver a good ways away from the transmitter but no luck. There is some static, but when the mp3 player begins to play, the static goes WAY up. Everything works fine when it's hooked up the 'non-wireless' way...

Could the Nady be the problem here? I mean, I got it on ebay so maybe it's junk?

Thanks!

If ya wanna bring it by the house Pyranesedriver (oops) I mean Randy, I'll see if I can help ya out... I've not made one, but I reckon I can follow the directions that LionHo wrote for us in the Tech Section... LOL

Seriously, if you want me to help, let me know and I'll see what we can come up with.

Well Stretch, I looked at LionHo's tutorial and while it was very informative, it still didn't address the problem I'm having. Maybe the two of us could destroy it beyond all recognition, er, I mean, ah, fix it....

Maybe the problem is that I've been a little half-hearted in my approach since I've been hearing rumblings of the new Loudmouth!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

See there, you musta messed it up by messing with those wires "your not supposed to touch"... You know the ones... LOL /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

That's why LionHo's article didn't address that problem, cause most folks wouldn't have been fiddling around like that in the first place... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Now look...the fiddling WAS the fix! I think you're just getting bored sitting at your computer and just wanna give me crap because I haven't called about hunting yet.... Listen for the phone... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Sure enjoyed the hunt last night Randy. I hope Zachary doesn't get a belly ache from all the blackberries and plums he looted... LOL /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

We'll have to take him with us all the time now so when you need a scapegoat... (hint, hint) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

He's a great kid and I'd hunt with him anytime...

I'll try and follow up on the other stuff in the next couple of days, hopefully we can get everything going soon enough... Sure would be a blast...

Heck yeah! I'm looking forward to it too!

That was fun last night, and no Zach hasn't quite eaten all the plums and blackberries-yet, haha! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif He's still laughing about that pit bull story and talking about his shotgun. One of these days he'll actually get to see something to shoot...probably when his old man learns how to hunt coyotes better! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
