Help Remington 700 22-250 bolt issues...

So I came across a 22-250 for 200 bucks...Nice looking gun no scratches,bi pod, scope , whole 9 yards...Looks great...Then as I am licking my chops thinking what a steal...I tried to operate the bolt and holy chit!!!!!I had to put it in a gun vise and use both hands to open the bolt and close it ...So now I am wondering what did I get myself into...I soaked the bolt in gun oil and tried again ...A TINY BIT EASIER... But still nothing close to normal.. So any suggestions ...What could this be....Will Remington fix free of charge....Any reply s are appreciated thanks...
 
I had a gun that acted like that took it to a gunsmith, and he said that there was a lot of high pressure loads fired through the gun. This caused small fractures in the chamber and swelled the bolt face
 
Much more info needed.
Have you taken the barreled action out of the stock and worked the action and looked it over?
More to come. Pictures will be needed as well as more specifics on the rifle.

You need a new gunsmith.
 
Ok I don't have the gun with me I'll try to post pics tomorrow... What specs do you need off the gun that way I can post them with pics tomorrow... I have not taken the barreled action out of the stock yet....
 
What If? The bolt and the barrel are not head spaced correctly? Maybe a lost bolt and another just put into the action or a barrel just screwed onto the action for a quick sale. Either way, if all checks out OK but mis-matched, for 2 bills you didn't get hurt. Just a thought????

Just remembered, a long time ago, I had a Remmy with similar problems and heard from my smith that he had seen several new rifles with similar problems. We tried a few different bolts and they acted differently. Basically he rechambered and head spaced and the problem went away.

Factory barrel or aftermarket? Pics of the rifle and the bolt lug face area to start.
Do you have another Rem 700 SA that you could swap bolts with just for a test?
 
First remmy so I have nothing to test it with..I'll take some pictures and try to post if I can ever figure out how to transfer the pics from my phone to the forum Lol....Honestly didnt pay attention to the barrel to see if it was after market or factory.. Tomorrow I'll have more info..

Remove the scope, rings and bases and try again.

Once the bolt opens does it move freely?

Need a pic of the bolt, lugs (rear and sides) and bolt face.

No. That front action screw will hit the bolt lug. And it'll leave marks. It's easy for that to happen if the action has been in different stocks or the hardware has been changed.

Its the forward front scope base screw that hits the barrel tenon if its too long.
 
I am always a bit HINKY about deals that are too good to be true. Always signal a proceed with caution sign.

You got that right - dumbest thing I have heard this month.

You cannot even begin to imagine the astronomical pressures it would take to cause that kind of damage - the case would melt and fuse before that kind of damage could happen - stupid, badd gunsmith.


 
So when I pull the bolt handle up its hard and once the bolt handle is up I can move the bolt freely back and forth like normal...the problem is the bolt handle is hard to lift up and push down into the locking position ..Does that make sense...? Its hard to explain
