Help Remington 700 22-250 bolt issues...

Really need a pic of that bolt. Specifically the rear or back of the lugs and both sides of the lugs.

Does the rifle dry fire ok? How does the trigger feel when you drop the firing pin?

Remove the front action screw... if that doesn't help, remove the front scope sight base - if that doesn't do it, take it to a good smith.
 
I ran into the same problem after I had the receiver & barrel out of the stock to clean on my 700. After putting it back together, I had the same problem. I had the screw (under the stock) too tight. After I loosened it a very very small amount, it was fine.
 
Sounds like the front screw in too far on the bottowm metal or the 2nd screw in the scope mount. I know that was said before. Cheers, Ottway
 
UPDATE

yotebuster was able to email me some pics of his bolt.

Everything looks normal except for that black piece of pigeon poop on the firing pin shroud, otherwise known as a J-lock.

If you look close you will see that it is in the locked position [white dot] but he can operate the bolt just not easily. [failed lock]

PTG replacement would be in order

I'd say we've learned two things here.

1) Pix should ALWAYS accompany a request for help.

2) All the folks that have argued that J-Locks are a non issue over the years are full of schnitzel.

I'd send you a key but it would be a disservice. Get rid of that stupid thing ASAP.

I would agree totally with your suggestion to replace the j-lock ASAP assessment, but I'll add a 3rd item to your list:

3. Know your firearm and "schnitzel won't happen".

All of this over a silly locked j-lock mechanism that most people would recognize immediately. It worked as designed except when muscle was applied.

At least we're not reading about the "poorly designed" bolt handle that "just fell off for no reason".
