Help with Decoys

I'm new to decoys but after reading a bit seems they may help. Is the Come Alive predator enticer decoy a good choice? What are your experiences? Your best decoys? This is my first post. I'm just learning. Thanks for any help!

I have tried several styles of decoys and have not had success with any of them. My latest decoy purchase was a full body mount of a coyote. It was one a student taxidermist had made so it was cheap. I have only used it twice and didn't have any luck.
I have had the best success with hand calls an e-calls.

TN Woody, I have used the enticer, and it has helped me take a coyote. It was 10 steps in front of me looking at the decoy, which allowed me to bring my gun up and take the yote without it ever seeing me.

The Enticer is lightweight, easy to set up, and VERY quiet. No hums or vibrations at all, and has a real nice action. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Check out the Predator Supreme . It's designed and marketed by George Brint right there in TN. Check out the Primos Predator Hunter 1 video to see it and George in action. I bought one and love it. It will hold their attention to give you a shot.

TN Woody,
Welcome to PM! I use the Predator Supreme on about half my stands and think it is helpful about half the time I use it. If you use the "SEARCH" feature (shut-up Krusty! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif ) type in the word "DECOY" as the keyword you'll get lots of discussion from the archives to mull over.

Shut up Krusty /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif ....

Hahaahaahaaaaa!!! You funny guy, GC!
It's OK everybody... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
I like to tease GC about sending everyone to search the archives... and GC has a sense of humor (that works) so he's teasing back! lol
I'm cool with that...

Woody,

The most basic, and depending on who you ask, one of the most effective decoys there are, is a white feather (loosely) tied to a branch (or a stick) and placed either with your e-caller, or in between you and where you think a predator will show up.

The slightest breeze will set the feather into a rocking motion, on up to a spiraling feather in a stiff breeze... hypnotising them right in to it.

Many guys believe by the time a coyote (with his poor vision) sees a decoy, he shoulda already been dead... and some of the motorized decoys have been said to scare away as many coyotes as they attract.

Cats however, are said to respond well to decoys...

And for a cat decoy I personally can't think of a better one than this one;

I got one just like it from All Predator Calls they cost about $16 and it drives my bro's birddog nuts...

It can be set up about half a dozen different ways, and when hung from a string, will fly in a circle for hours on end... even if you don't have magpies in your area I'd consider it as first choice, because the black and white creates a good contrast, and definitely gives the appearance of movement from a very long ways away.

Cat season just opened for us in the last few weeks so I haven't done much field testing yet, but the crows and housecats here in town have fallen for it over and over!

I hope this interactive advise, in an open discussion, has been helpful (shut up yersef GC! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif LMAO),

Jeff

One feature about the predator enticer that I find rewarding: the batteries will probably last longer than hunting season!!!

I'm backkk! I read all on "decoys" from SEARCH CG! Really great info. Thanks.

Cabelas has Predator Supreme for $39.99. It seems best for thicker cover. How is battery life?

But I'd like to hear an update from Jimmie in Ky on his experience with Enticer since Dec. 2002.

Also anybody else with a little more experience with Enticer. How is battery life?

Buckcaz!

Will I was working on my reply you answered the Enticer battery question! This is the best board I've been on!

Thanks much

The Predator Supreme will eat a battery per day. I think George Brint told me on the phone that it was supposed to run four+ hours of non-stop operation. That's pretty close, maybe a little conservative, dependant upon weather temperatures. Colder weather is harder on batteries than above freezing temps.

I have one of the P S decoy's and it does eat the batterys But the call works good i have the Fleather Flex fawn i am going to try now VM

ONE SHOT ONE KILL

I've tried a bunch of decoys. Home made to purchased. The enticer is the best of the best. It's completely quiet! (That's the part I like best) It sets up fast and is very affordable.

I have to give the nod to the enticer. Battery life will last most of the season. You can stick the whole thing in your pocket and go. Both coyote's and foxes are mesmerized by the action.

You can say the same of the feathers as well. The big plus with them is they are cheap or free is you live in the country and they don't use batteries.

Where the decoy is most useful is when you are hunting heavy cover. It can sometimes give you and oportunity for a shot you wouldn't otherwise get. It gives them something to lock onto and they move in a more direct line to it instead of searching for the sound. Jimmie

Thank you Jimmie in Ky for replying and to each and every one of you for all your advice and comments! This has been very educational to me! I'm sure many designs will work to a degree for a given situation. Thanks again for your time! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
