Help with my rock rivers coyote carbine! Suffering accuracy

try some 40 grain vmax's hornaday...or fiochii. the 1-9 twist loves the 40 grain vmax's

try them your groups will go well under an inch.

The scope rings are rarely perfectly straight or round. Even if they are just barely off or out of round they can put pressure, in effect bends, in your scope. Lapping the rings is a process that trues them up.

I have never lapped a set of rings and every gun I own will shoot less than 1" groups. I know some swear by it but it is not going to tighten your groups from 2" to 3/4" like you want. As you have been told, try quality ammo first and make sure that you actually have the capability of shooting that good. If you cant do it, it isnt going to matter what you do to the gun. From the sound of your posts, I think you are actually a fairly new shooter.

My 16" operator with a 1-4 PST shoots tighter groups than that at 250 yards. Stay away from crap ammo and get some v-max and your problem should disappear. Also shoot with a set of bags instead of the bipod, my rifle shoots lights out with my handloads. Nosler 40 grain ballistic tip and N-133.

I'll throw my 2 cents in. My Burris PEPR mount had the nuts back off about 1/4 of a turn. My groups looked just like yours. I tightened them back up and used some white out so I would see if it happened again. Haven't had a problem since. I could shoot 6 shots and each impact would cycle up and down to where it looked like I had shot 2 different 3 shot groups. Check your mount over good

never used a torque wrench when mounting a scope. never ruined a scope or had any scope problems due to it and never had any scopes or mounts come loose. never. not saying its a bad idea. just not needed. it aint rocket science but a man still needs to use his brain with this stuff. there is always some men have no buisness mounting there own scopes.

Make sure the barrel nut is tight, if so move to the scope. I've never seen a non chrome lined AR that won't stay under an inch.

Just so you know, Rock River Coyote is not chrome lined.

I don't think anyone reading his comment should assume he thought that barrel is chrome lined.

Well fellas I took the higher road and just sold it. It looks like this one will remain a mystery to us all. I did keep the scope and mount and I just pray I don't run into the same problem when I get my new rifle, if I do I'll be sure to post it, along with an f bomb. Deciding between rra predator pursuit and their new x series. I held the x series the other day and it just felt good. Any thoughts on those?? I know they are pretty new

It's no mystery to me.
You were using crappy ammo.

That was the weakest link in the chain.

Agreed!

I have to agree.. Typically a rifle only shoots as good as the quality components that you put on and into it.. I think I would offer to sell the ammo along with it in a package deal..

Torque wrench, lapping, I do all that just for my own peace of mind. But this to me sounds like a ammo issue or a bad scope or poor scope mounting. Grizz

New owner is probably going to get a good shooter. I doubt the problem was with the rifle it's self. I'm thinking Want moa was a little hasty in his decision to sell his Rock River. Grizz Originally Posted By: R15 PredatorYou took the high road? Did you tell the buyer that it shot like crap?
