Hevi-shot Dead Coyote T shot

COYKILL

I have a Carlson's Dead Shot choke tube coming and was told to get the Hevy-shot Dead Coyote T Shot and I checked the price for a box of 10 and it was over $42.00 I don't know if that is the going price or if I need to try someplace different.

I got mine at a store called Sportsman's Warehouse...I don't know if there is one in your area....

Having said that...It was my first box and while it seems to live up to all the hype...I'm going to do what BPS suggests...I'm going to get a box of No. 4 buck and test pattern it...If it patterns, I'm going with it and I'll save a lot of money....

Look at the thread on the shooting forum about shogun pattern tests...Dead Coyote may have the steam to kill a dog at 70 yards as they claim, but no one seems to be able to get consistent patterns beyond the 50 yard mark...I suspect that from zero to 45 or 50 yards buckshot will make a coyote just as dead as Dead Coyote and do it much cheaper....

The country I hunt is a mix of brush and oak covered rolling hills....There are places where you can see forever, but there are also a lot of places to set up in the brush and cover...I set up in areas that favor the use of a shotgun. When hunting "shotgun" country. 50 yards is a long way and it looks like a long way....The last animal I shot with Dead Coyote was about 25 yards from me and a 3 inch load of buckshot would have done the job nicely....

Is there some reason you think you have to shoot the Hevi-Shot?

Said it before, and I'll say it again. Go pattern your shotgun when you get your new choke. Start off with some 4 Buck (which you can get 5 shells for $7 or less). You can get some different manufactures of that and see how those do. If that patterns well for you, why do you have to shoot the Hevi-Shot? Short answer...YOU DON'T.

Personally, I would spend the $20 or so and see if the #4 buck shoots well before spending the $30+ to find out that the Hevi-shot doesn't.

I love the stuff, use the 3" with a factory full choke. $42 for a box of 10 is a good bit more than I paid last time.

i bought a box for about 35 bucks 2 years ago and went to bass pro a couple weeks ago and they were 52.99 for the 3.5in!!!!!

Like said above, study the mass, pellet count, diameter, etc. dead coyote is ONLY an advantage if you can get it to shoot beyong 50 yds. Otherwise 4 buck is the way to go.

Yea im definately gonna invest in some 4 buck. ive been carryin some 3 1/2 BB steel shot thats been layin around the house forever but aparently it doesnt travel very far. Ppl on here dont reccomend it.

Ive shot 2 coyotes with the hevi shot with carlsons dead coyote choke and dropped them both in their tracks but one was 40 yards or less and one was 10 yards

I'm not sure why people did up these old posts.

T shot is the biggest we can shoot at night.

It's cheaper to shoot a whole lot of times with the .223. I bought some Dead Coyote at Bass Pro. Cost me $15 to shoot at a fox last weekend.

Bass Pro Shop is over priced on almost everything they sell. I can buy the 3" DC here for $32. When I stopped in at Bass Pro in Maryland last fall, they wanted $42 for the same thing.

For what that stuff costs you can try a number of different 4 buck loads. It hurts just thinking about it but I plan to try some of the lead 3 1/2" loads.Even these are a lot cheaper than Hevi-shot.

I was given a gift certificate to a local sporting goods chain several years ago and bought the Carlson's choke and a few boxes of 3 1/2" Dead Coyote. I killed a few coyotes with it but also lost a few that ran off into the heavy sage brush of eastern Oregon.

For a lot of years I used #4 buck so I patterned some in the Carlson's choke tube. It was great. I've been using #4 buck with the Carlson choke ever since and have yet to lose anything with it. In some areas non toxic shot is required and I will use it when it's required but for the most part I'm unimpressed with its' performance.
