Hi-Lux scopes

Does anyone out there have experience with Hi-Lux scopes by Leatherwood? Or heard anything about them, good or bad? I am debating on the purchase of one and thought I'd start here with inquiries.

I will be using this scope for varmint hunting, night and day hunting. Max range would be 300 yards.

Thank you.

Joel

Joel Hughes - I'd also like an answer to your question but it seems that there is little in the way of information out there for the Leatherwood line of scopes. Great military history and a very reasonable price, looks way too reasonable to me though. Both Millet and Leatherwood scopes get little to no responce here. If you do find anything out I'd like to hear about it.

Michael,
Good news. I had the opportunity to shoop a gun mounted with a Hi-Lux 6X18 50mm by Leatherwood this weekend. My brother bought one to mount on his new AR15. I have to tell you, the gun was more fun to shoot than looking through the scope. Ha ha. But the scope was VERY nice to look through, and very accurate. I have some pictures of a 5-shot group from 100 yards that my brother shot with it. The group is covered with a nickel. I also have a picture of his 10-shot group from 100 (just one big hole).

I will download the pictures and post them here when I get a chance.

Thanks for your reply.

Joel

Can't find the picture of the 10-shot group. If I find it, I'll post it. At any rate, it's not bad. I think I've decided to get one.

This place rocks. I have been asking this question for about 2 months at ar15.com and haven't had any responses. Then I just had a gut feeling to check here and there it was.

Joel, did your brother get the Uni-Dial scope? That is the one that I am looking into. They come out with a mil-dot/rangefinding reticle in a couple weeks, but only in the 6.5-20x model. If that is the zoom you want then just wait a couple weeks. Also, is your brothers gun a Rock River Varmint 24"? That is the same gun I bought a few months ago. That seriously looks identical to what I want my gun to look like when I get done accessorizing it. Tell him it looks awesome.

Thanks,
Clint

Clint,
Glad I could be of some sort of help. I wish more folks knew about Leatherwood too. Yes, that is a RRA Varmint 24". And yes he got the Uni dial. I am not 100% sure, but I believe the fellow I will be buying mine from already has the scope you mention. I know he has a really large selection of the Leatherwood line. I am going to go look at one this afternoon. I will take my digital camera with me and take some pictures for you and post them in my album, linked below. If you would like, send me an email and I will give you more information regarding how much the guy charges, etc. He is very reasonable.
