High Cost of Non-Resident Licenses

I guess it is a sign of the times for the high cost of non-resident licenses to hunt. I am not talking so much as to turkey, deer or bear, but for small game. For example: I live near the Simpson County, KY line in Tennessee and I was approached by an owner to hunt coyotes on his 160 acre farm in KY. At the local KY Wal-Mart I talked to the guy in the sporting goods and picked up the KY hunting guide. To my amazement the one year license was $115 and that did not include the big game licenses. The licenses run out in January, so its bad news for the farmer and me until February 1st. The fellow lost 6 calves to yotes this last year and that cost him about $3600. Here in Tennessee the yearly non-resident small game license is much better at $91. Hunting all year long in another state seems like a new, great opportunity for me.

Check and see if there is any provision about not needing a tag for predators on private land. Here in the west you can usually hunt private land without a tag for predators when you are "protecting the landowners property." Check and see what they say, you might be able to do it for free, if you can get the landowner to say that you were his agent.

Weedwalker, I stand corrected on the ending dates for a yearly hunting license. Thanks!
Thanks Elks, I'll mention your suggestion to the farmer about the special permit, maybe there is a way.

Good news for me, after posting my query, I receiced out of the blue a call from a farmer who lives about 16 miles from me that his area is overrun by coyotes and invited me to hunt there. His grandson saw a pack of 4 recently and the farmer had lost a calf to predators. He has 84 acres and there is 500 acres behind that which he said a person could hunt since there are no homes etc. This was all by word of mouth. Wa-Hoo!

The farmer that lost all of the calves may buy your liscense for you just to get you over there. $100 bucks isn't nothing compared to loosing another calf.

In KY you or your family has to own or rent the land to hunt without a permit. There aren't special permits to let someone else hunt on your property, they must have a liscense. I don't know of any loopholes around it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

can a non- resadent by a week long lic in tn? the reason i am asking is because i will be in east tn between x-mas and new year's for x-mas at the in law's /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif . well i am not realy in to seeing all the site's in the city (severville (sp?)) and get farly borred just sitting around there place all day. so i was thinking of taking my call's and a rifle and trying to find some land to do some calling on if possable. so i thought i would ask here when i seen this post. heck i would be interested in hunting with some one that is some what close by there (with in 100 mile's or so) if any body want's to hunt with some one that is still learning. all so what type of gun will i be needing to bring as well since they have this law? thank's for any info.

Y'all might want to vacation in the North!

NY non-resident license for small game is $55. Includes coyotes, fox, raccoon, rabbit, grouse, squirrel, mink (if you're a good shot) bobcat. Can't hunt beaver, otter, fisher or pine marten, though - trapping only ($255 non-resident trapping).

Non-resident turkey is $30 for 2 fall and 2 spring birds (one of the best bargains in the country, if you ask me).

Non-resident bear tag - $30
Non-resident big game - $110

bowhuntingnut: If you come to TN for Xmas to New Year, you can use any centerfire rifle. The gun season will still be going on for deer there in East Tennessee. Coyotes can be hunted year round.
