High powered Air Rifle Hunting????

I do. I hunt with a TX200, .177 caliber dome pellet , 863 fps average, and a 3 to 9 power scope. This air rifle shot so many small games and entered many filed target tournaments over the years.

Most of the shots were fired at range between 10 to 55 yards. Yes, there were squirrels got away after the fit, but not many. For rabbit hunting, the pellets do not go through most of the time.

I had a longest shot crow kill over a swamp, 78 yards, two years ago.

I do a huge amount of my varmint hunting with an air rifle. I shoot competitve air rifle and I own a Hammerli AR-50 Professional air rifle that is charged from a cylinder of compressed air. From the factory the rifle kicks out at about 650 fps, but with a little work I have upped it to about 800 fps. Most of the varmint shooting that I do is prarie dogs and rabbits, with the occasional squirrel and even coyote mixed in. My buddy and I are actually paid by three different golf courses to "control" the varmint populations. We usually go a couple of times a month in the fall and then twice a month in the spring. My Hammerli really puts a hurting on the varmints...We usually get within 20 yards or so and shoot them in the head, and it is very rare that they run more than a couple of yards. There have been days that our air tanks ran out of gas and there were still plenty of targets.

I've been known to take a few "varmints" of a backyard sort. I would identify but, I would step on plenty of toes and make a few mad.
