Hey Shaun, Saltyvarmintr is the guy I was telling you about yesterday. I searched his posts but the pics are no longer available. I sent him a PM so hopefully he'll be along shortly with a fresh set o'pics!

I am going on a jackal sweep on the farm this coming weekend after full moon yesterday, I will take you some photos of a set up we use at some locations, we have one on a truck ( chair ) and another on a trailor we just unhook. I will get a few pics and send them to you, whats your e mail address. The set up and chairs we use are designed for the African plains , some even have built in motors that swivel the chair automatically, no manual labour needed. send me your address and I will pass them along. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

this one works on a pickup or a SUV.I do have two one can be up for trade.

Here's one that we built. Made it out 4x4's and 2x4's. Works well and easy to take out when need be.

did you have to have a welder add the rests for the seats or were you able to bolt something together?

Maybe post a pic of your seat?

Thanks-

Greg

Pyledriver, I hope I remembered how to post these picture. Sorry for the delay. Short on time.

I was asked to post my killing chair pictures again. So here goes.
The jeep loaded and ready to go

I know this design works. I made a hook on the front of the jeep to carry my varmints. I did'nt want all those fleas or other crawly crap inside with me.

You can make the platform whatever you care to. the important thing to me is the chair and gun rest/ light holder.
backjeep.jpg

The shooting rest is made to adjust up and down for different shooters and the light bracket adjusts so you can move the beam to keep it up off the victim your fixing to shoot.

The bottom of the chair. a bracket I made to mount the chair to the pedestal.

The pedestal which has an axle hub for the swivel. Much quiter an smooth.

Saltyvarmintr, Very nice setup. I have been trying to get my CJ set up. What are the two upright hooks on the other side of the light bracket for? I'm guessing a gun rest but dont know for sure.
That really looks heavy do you have any lift on your rig and is there any sag in the back suspension?
Thanks again for sharing your rig with us.
Mike

jedicazador, I'm not sure which part you refer to as the gun rack. The hooks on the side of the platform (red hooks) are the gun racks, one on each side of the platform. I have been on very rough terrain and down the highway at 65 and never worry about my gun. the weight of gun, scope, and lightforce light as well as the gun being able to rock in its cradle makes it stay there. If its held rigid it knocks the light off alighment and needs to be adjusted at each stop. The hooks or els you might be refering to are the adjustment bolts which hold tight the up and dowm of the shooting rest and the adjustment of the light. My jeep has a homemade lift of 6 inches and yes I notice a little sag in the rear end. I plan to address that in the off season as well as make a few changes to the platform. Like moving the seats farther apart and a little larger deck. It helps when you do your own welding. If it does'nt work just cut it off and do again. It is a constant design improvement.
Thanks for looking. Saltyvarmintr

My bud and I did a rig in his Toy it was really heavy, we were able to lighten it up a little but not as much as we would like. My CJ wont be able to handle that much weight. I've been playing with the idea of steel framing studs they are alot lighter and seem to be pretty sturdy at this time. I dont have any seats set up, kind of like to stand or kneel while I hunt. Still floping the idea around. I'll put some photos out when I get it done. thanks again. Mike

Hey Mike, I would like to build one also, but we cannot shoot from our vehicles here. It would make a good lookout platform for the person using the light and the other person on the ground with the rifle...JOHN

I dont shoot from my rig I float above it gently like an Angel of Predator Control waiting in the darkness for the furry creatures to come to me. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif hehehehe

Hey Salty......how did you come up with those cool set-screws that you use on your light mount & shooting rest? I'm always making up set screws for tightening down arm rests, shooting rests, light brackets, etc., but haven't seen that design before. I gotta make me some!

Great pics and hunting rig you have there! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Take care and God Bless,

Rusty

Rusty, I've always been a tinkerer. I'm sure I saw it somewhere but once I saw Watsons rig the creative juices started flowing. Bolt and nut design and if it doesnt stay put a lock washer. If it still vibrates loose I made a small tool to tighten it down with. Just a piece of round stock about 7 inches long with a nut welded to the end .The nut fits over the handle I'm tightening and you can crank down on it. That's a Hughes you're sitting in, I have a commercial ticket and rated for Robinsons but after the second crash I may have gotten the message.A helicopter ride while laying flat on your back sucks.
