Hog gun with scope primary, what for a close up secondary site

On my last hog hunt, we shot them from 200 yards to 20 feet. Across fields to up close in the brush with dogs right on top of them. Want to mount a red dot or holographic on an offset mount for up close, or moving type shots. Any suggestions on a good setup that won't break the bank. Would like to keep mount and optic under $300 or $350 if possible

Did not know if a red dot or holographic reflex type would be better. What mounts are decent? I been looking at a Daniel defense offset

I put a laser on my pig gun for 50 yrd and closer which I use mainly for tracking wounded pigs. The woods are so thick here in central Mississippi that it is typically 20 yards or less before you see them and you dont need to have the rifle shouldered in order to shoot. A few weeks ago it came in handy when I wandered up between a sow and her piglets.... Could hear her coming but could not see her until she was around the 15 yard mark. Stopped her cold!

On a Warne RAMP mount. Here is an article I wrote about it a while back. Easy, instintive shooting.

If you already have a scope mount you really like, Warne just came out with these. I've got this set up on this rifle:

If you look closely you can see where the Fastfire is on the A645 -- just behind and under the front bell.

I love these set ups.

If you aren't worried about paying big bucks for a piece of metal, the 45 degree adapters can be found from other companies, and down to about $12-15 shipped.

what caliber is your gun? my good buddy set up an offset refle sight on his scoped ar10 .308 and ended up eating the scope in the mouth when he canted the rifle to use the reflex. I have used the picitany rails tha mount on your existing scope and place the reflex on top of the scope. for close up shooting i liked it a lot. I would just try out a couple different designs and see what works for you. p.s. the burris is a decent optic. I will say you will get what you pay for in a reflex/ holographic sight.

Mine is. 223/5.56. I have a Burris pepr mount, so may try the fast fire on top first, then on a Daniel defense mount. If I don't like that it looks like the Warne ramp is exactly what I want in a tidy little package. I got a fast fire 3 and it looks sweet. Man they are small. Can't wait for my rifle to get here

Thanks for input dust. I may pick up one of those cheaper options just to see what they look like.

This is going to be a multi use gun, and I am not really sparing any expense, although I am always down for a good value

You can buy cheaper. I have and have used the YHM 45 dovetail (as in the video for that article). It works, but just like the top mount on the LaRue and the PEPR the position is suboptimal. You have to break your cheek weld to use them -- it can be done but it is suboptimal.

The RAMP puts the secondary EXACTLY in the right place. The A645 puts the red dot in the best spot as well if you already have a scope.

The last thing I'd say about all this is make sure you practice. Shoot the primary at 100, switch to the close up target, go back, etc. If you have a random timer it makes a good drill.
