Hog video

A couple folks on here wanted to know if I had any more videos with my Thermion XQ50. I got into a big bunch of hogs Saturday night so I will post that up. A couple things with this video though.

First off, I went out to shoot more coons. Because of that I had swapped onto my 556 using the Hornady 62 BTHP. Not exactly the best hog medicine out of a 14.5" AR. But it did OK. Next time out it will be back on my Grendel shooting 120 Gold Dots.

This happened out in a split pivot circle, half peanuts (where it started) and half cotton (that some of them ran out into). I was nearly standing in the two track that separates the two.

First group of hogs I did pretty decent on. I had to swing around a bit because I could hear them running past me and I had to make sure I wasn't about to get plowed over. Second group of hogs I just couldn't seem to get the range on. I thought I was missing my lead, but looking back on the video it looks like I was shooting high. I did get hits on several more though.

Lastly, that Adams piston upper is normally VERY reliable. I have never had it malfunction until that night. But with all the heat and sand, I just let it get too dry and dirty. My fault. After the first mag it turned into a single shot. A little lube had it running like a top again later, but too late.

I put 5 on the ground, 4 confirmed kills. Hits on at least 3 others. I got two solid hits on a big sow running through the cotton that never went down.

Converting to Youtube cut down the quality some, but still ok.

Yes it did NUC right after I started shooting, right after I hit the second pig. I have changed settings now to semi auto NUC so that it won't do that to me again.

Wow at about 2:17 that would have been like flock-shooting pigs. If your gun hadn't malfunctioned, that was a big glob of pigs to shoot at. I would be constantly loading ammo if we had wild pigs in our state, and I would probably never get any sleep.

I'm guessing you either didn't have the mag seated correctly or you had crud in the mag, as I have the Huldra 223, which is piston driven and made by Adam Arms - it can be run dry with a little mud and it'll keep going like the energizer bunny.

The only time my rifle turned into a single shot was when I didn't have the mag seated fully - one hard palm slap to the underside of the mag usually cures the problem.

I think I could have went through 3-30 round mags in that time period with all those hogs - Like Kirsch, I would be out every night after those hogs and I'm sure it be expensive, as my wife would divorce my [beeep] and take everything except my guns and reloading equipment/supplies.

JoeyJ- I just put a shot of CLP in it and it started running fine again. Probably had 800 rounds down it since I cleaned it. Super dry and dirty, we have very sandy conditions out here. The mags were seated good, as soon as it clicked the first time I ran my drills, checked and cycled. Second time I swapped mags and it still did it. Swapped to a third mag and still did it. It has been a really reliable gun. I have shot several classes that were 600-800 rounds in 2 days with it, and never touched it during class. That upper has around 3000-3500 rounds down it and this is the only time it has every malfunctioned. The poor maintenance was totally on me.

Kirsh- Shooting pigs is a lot of fun for sure, and very addicting. Went out again night before last looking for them again but didn't find them. Got in super late and felt all hung over the next day at work even though I hadn't drank a drop. That last group of pigs, if my gun had been running right I could have put down more than one of them.

Night before last when I was out there again I did find two more dead ones out in the cotton. I tracked them down by their smell. I can confirm 5 at this point. Not bad for a single shooter with a 556 and a weapon malfunction.

I went back and looked at the youtube link, uploading the video really trashed the quality worse than I thought. Watching raw video on my computer everything is much crisper and easier to see, way sharper.

The first two that went down were at 38 and 42 seconds respectively. One of those stayed down, but at some point the other got up and got away. Probably the first one. I say that because the first one was a big hog, and when I finally swung back around to that last group that was all wadded up, they were just kind of hanging out around a big pig out there. Once they started moving you could tell that big pig was already hurt. So I think I stunned the first big pig and later it hobbled off.

I missed seeing it the first couple times but another hog falls in the cotton at 53 (maybe from a bullet it caught in that first initial mad dash into the cotton?), that one ended up being confirmed 2 nights ago. Odd, because I was shooting at the pig in front of it when it fell. The big hog in front it it had already caught two bullets but never went down.

The next one that flips in the cotton at 57 seconds I found 2 nights ago as well. The last one coming out of the cotton at 1:12 was confirmed the night of the shooting.

The last one goes down out of the final group at 2:38 and it was confirmed that night.
