hogs

I was wanting to know how many consider a hog a predator since they will kill fawns, birds, and new born calves, and does anybody try calling them and with what sounds. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowingsmilie.gif

There is no need to call hogs here in texas. Throw out a bag of corn and it will be gone the next day. You just have to bait them and before you know it you will have atleast 15 hogs there at one time.

i have called in one before...just with a rabbit distress...but thats all. other than that one, i have never had one come into a call.....and we have a bunch here.

Predator? not so much. Oprotunist and a total friggin' nusance? YES. Shoot On Sight and don't stop hitting them till they are lucky enough to get out of sight. When my brother guided for the 777 ranch last year he told all hunters to pop the big hogs right behind the rib cage so they would run off and expire and he wouldn't have to skin the stinking beasts for out of state hunters that didn't know any better. Nobody here in Texas likes them except for the guide services that sell the chance to kill one for way too much money. They are nasty things that have very little upside and I encourage killing all you see.
Plus the medium to small ones make goooodd eating /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif. Death to pigs and feral dogs!!

I consider them big or medium game animals and they are very destructive but that is the nature of hogs, they like to eat. My opinion is the best call is a auto-timed feeder. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I am in m texas and yes they come to bait at night I am lucky not to have any on my ranch at this time, but the ranches around me or starting to get more and more and they are trapping but not killing, they will let me hunt in daylight but not at night and I was hoping to kill a few before they get here. I do kill on site all hoggs and leave laying hoping to kill dogs off of it.

I would consider them a nuisance & a pest deserving to be shot on sight.

Ft Benning has always had a respectable hog population but due to the extreme wisdom of some game biologists, they got out of hand real quick. They put a $25.00 bounty on them. Just bring in the tails. Between the hunters, sharpshooters, and trappers, I think they are about to get a handle on them.
They will decimate the quail & turkey population plus they will kill fawns and destroy the mast crops that deer love.
The young ones are good eating. The bigger ones stink so bad I won't even attempt to gut em out.
