Hogue Free Float Tube

I ordered a Predator Pursuit Upper recently, it will be here tomorrow. I unfortunately didn't pay attention when ordering and opt for the Hogue Free float tube. I'm pretty sure I'm not going to like the all aluminum RRA tube. I may give them a call and see if they'll give me a good price to just send me a Hogue. If so, how much trouble is the installation? I know I'll need a strap wrench, will gas tube need modification? Any other tips?

You'll need a GOOD strap wrench to align the gas tube holes. And the bend in the gas tube that aligns it with the key makes threading it through those little holes a pain in the rear. You will get it, but it will test your patience.

The aluminum RRA tube is essentially a Hogue without a rubber wrap. Mine is just really cold in the winter, plenty of grip.

I have had my clothes actually stick (freeze) to my RRA handgaurd this winter. I'm also looking for something else. I'm looking towards a carbon fiber option. Will lighten it up as well.

All my "hunting" uppers wear DPMS carbon fiber tubes. They really lighten up a rifle, especially the 308 sized ones. I don't have any complaints on them except they do tend to be a bit glossy and need to be covered if you're concerned about glare. Overall really like them and will probably have more in the future.

I just got my neoprene Ada sleeve from dtech (here on pm) Fits nice and should do the job. Send him a pm and he can probably hook ya up. Ships quick also.

Doesn't surprise me this winter as we had several days with -50 windchill here.

Do you like it compared to the RRA? My upper came in this week, I'm going to try it as for a while, but might still consider Hogue tube in the future. I think the tan Hogue would look good on my rig...

Did you get it installed BOBTAILS?
The tube on my coyote carbine is one piece and that is what made getting the gas tube through tough. I think the longer Hogue tubes are two piece? Maybe after torqueing the Hogue and aligning the gas tube hole that a wire through the hole from the receiver might help guide the gas tube through. I pride myself at being mechanically inclined and was probably just having brain fart that night. I was very pre occupied and scared/concerned the strap wrench might peel my freshly applied hydro dip.

I do like it, so far. I got the knurled one, instead of the overmolded. I got the mid length on a 16" barrel, because I wanted to cover the gas block. Then I read this thread, and was worried about how I was gonna get the gas block on underneath a one piece tube. Opened it up, it was a two piece, the end with the barrel nut was only bout 1.5 inches long. My bcg is coming today, so hopefully I'll get to shoot it tomorrow

been a long time waiting for that! The threads on the tube had what looked like anti seize on them
