Hogue overmold stocks

What are your opinions on these? Actually I am trying to find a stock that is close to the stock that is on the Browning A Bolt. I handled one of these in the shop the other day and have to admit that it was one of the best feeling stocks I have ever felt. I am not fond of Browning firearms so I'm trying to find a stock that has the thin grip with a palm swell that is rubber coated to fit a Rem. 700. Are the Hogue Overmold Full Block stocks thin in the grip? I read on their site that they have a palm swell.

just handled a rem 700 with 20in 308 heavy barrel and hogue over molded stock last week. also checked out the rem 700 vtr with triangle barrel and integral brake, stock on it is quite slim in the forend, and then goes to wide where the sling stud is. the over molded felt awesome to me, but i wanted the vtr barrel to try, the salesman wouldnt let me swap the stocks. after shooting the vtr, decided to order the hogue from brownells, will be here in a couple weeks, for $98. also ordered one for a mauser 338 06. these stocks seem to just stick to your hands when you hold them. lee

The stock itself feels good but everything in the world sticks to the rubber coating. I personally don't like them but a lot of people do. They are good stock for very little cash. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

I don't find that to be true! I really like the ones I have! The newest ones are available in camo!!!!!!!

The thing that I am trying to duplicate is the way the thin pistol grip with palm swell felt. Does any one have any information on this. I would also like to know about the stiffnes of the forestock, the website shows the aluminum block to run all the way to the tip. Thank You, for your help

If you have a big store close, go check out a Howa Rifle. They come factory with a Hogue stock. You can get a good close look at one that way. I have never owned one, but I do like them.

My Remington 700 SPS Tactical came with the Hogue Overmolded stock that was pillar bedded. IMHO, there was too much flex in the forearm, so I decided to beef it up. The stock was fine after being strengthened in the forearm, but I just couldn't get used to the sticky feeling of the rubber, so I sold it. I replaced it with an HS Precision stock and now I'm happy with the rifle. YMMV. MI VHNTR

I have a Rem. 700 SPS in 204. Before I bought the rifle I bought a Bell & Carlson stock for it that i planned on useing to replace the tupperware. After shooting the rifle I fell in love with the way the factory stock felt. The rifle shoots sub MOA with the factory stock, but I feel that it could be made to shoot better with some good bedding and removing the pressure point. The B&C feels too thick in the pistol grip compaired to the factory. The thing that I really like in the Browning stock is the grip. It feels so good I have to duplicate it. Have you ever handled one? Does the Browning feel that good to anybody else? Who makes their stock? I may have to take the rasp to the B&C. I am not comfortable with the factory stock on the Remmy because it is flimsey. Do you think it would be worthwhile to install pillars and bed in Devcon the factory stock? It feels right to me. The foreend would still be a limp noodle unless people here have a solution for that. I think that the idea of plastic is the real turn off.

I just purchased one for my Ruger 77 Mk II in .300Win mag and just got it installed a few days ago. I got the full aluminum bed model and it is really nice.

They said it was a drop in fit and would free float the barrel. I found the action to fit very well but the barrel recess needed a little trimming with the dremmel to fully free float the barrel. Wasn't hard and Hogue says you can trim up to 1/8" of material and not harm the stock.
I took off way less than that and it was easily done with the sanding wheel on the dremmel. I just took my time and trimmed alittle and checked the fit trimmed alittle etc.

I really like the looks and the quality of it and can't wait to go sight it in(added a new scope while I was at it why not huh?) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif I will post some pics of it all together. Any questions feel free to ask!

Thank you Wstrnsky, The pics really help. It is hard to tell, but is the measurement in pic 3 of the bottom of the forestock or the top of the pistol grip?

Is you sps a varmint or std barrel? If it is a varmint you'll probably like an H&S better. It seems to be thinner in the wrist. Denny
