Hogue stock for vanguard

Anyone purchased a Hogue aftermarket stock for their rifle? I know there are others, B&C, MCM, Boyds etc, but I am interested in the Hogue. This would go on a weatherby vanguard. Just curious if any member actually has one on their rifle. Likes & dislikes..

I have the full lengh bedding block version and absolutely love it. Iv also had the pillar beded versions as well and thought they were outstanding for the money as well.

What a timely post! I was going to ask the same question!
I won a Howa 1500 Stainless Varminter, but it has this
hideous synthetic stock. I relieved the barrel channel,
and that has helped, but the stock is very flexible, and
inorder to shoot good groups, extreme care has to be taken
where the action sits on the rest. When care is taken, this
rifle shoots some pretty impressive groups, and when not
taken, shoots some pretty ugly groups. I thought about
the Boyd's Thumbhole, but they are not pillar bedded, and
I don't feel like doing that, which would be a first for me,
and would not want to chance trashing the stock. Then I
stumbled on the Hogue offerings. Now my only debate is,
will the pillar bedded version do, or should I just go
for the full length bedding block?

Anyway, thanks for starting this thread.

I put a Hoque on my .257 Weatherby Vanguard. The forearm on the one I got is touching the barrel on the left side. I called them and they said to send it in for replacement. I have to pay the shipping costs however.

In all honesty either way you go Im sure you will like the hogue stocks. I have had 3 of the plane Jane pillar bedded versions and have to say I loved them. They do flex just a tiny bit in the fore arm but a little relief in the front just bellow the barrel will handle that. My current Vanguard (Re-Labeled Howa)in 300wby is sitting in the full length bed block version. I got to be honest the money is well spent for this version. It is as stiff as a pervert at a school crossing! Only thing I was worried about when buying it was the added weight due to the full bed block. After I got it installed I could barely tell any weight difference. I even have a Howa Barreled action in 270win sitting in my safe waiting for my web store of choice to get them back in stock so I can buy one for that rifle. If you do go with the Pillar bedded option deff. don't feel like you've short changed your self as it is a quality stock I'm sure you'll like it! These are truly "hunter" stocks IMHO! Nothing compares when your hiking up damp snow packed mountains!

I would recommend the B&C Medalist for Vangards .I have 2 and they are well built ,fit well ,and there is no flexing . These come with a full aluminum bedding block .Midway usually has the tan in stock.A little more money but vastly superior product .

Ramjet,

Currently Midway doesn't have the SA B&C Medalist stocked,
in any color. Also, I don't see where they spec out the
barrel channel. This is a varmint barrel, and I really
don't want to have to pay this kind of money, and end up
doing barrel channel relieving work.

Have you had any experience with the Hogue stocks, for
a comparison? Hogue also has one with a full aluminum
bedding block, and it comes in a version with a varmint
contour barrel channel. I do have a B&C Duramax stock,
on a Savage, and am very happy with it, even though it
is not of the quality of the Medalist, but it also was
not even half the cost. I guess I would like to hear
why I should pay $20 more for a Medalist, over a Hogue
Over Molded full bedding block, or $110 more for a Medalist,
over a Hogue Over Molded fiberglass frame/pillar bedded
stock. The Hogue Pillar Bedded is looking like the front
runner, given the current info I have about these choices.
All of these choices are going to be a special order at
Midway, and my searches have not found one in stock anywhere
my on-line searches have taken me.

I believe I will give the Hogue a try. It sounds like what I'm looking for....it will go on a gun that will be used for strictly hunting. Thanks for the replies

midsouthshooterssupply.com has them in stock.

I did a quick search on their site, and came up nothing found.
Now their site isn't working for product browsing, so as
soon as I can get around their product offerings, I will
check their stock.

Thanks

Hey Squeeze , I have not used Hogue . I like B&C because you can skim bed the action in . Plastic / tupperware stocks do not lend themselves well to this because the epoxy does not really bond to the plastic .I have had a number of problems with Hogue pistol grips and for that reason have not bought any rifle stocks from them . I think a fiberglass stock with a bedding block has got to be superior to a plastic ctock with a block just for stiffness reasons .Just my $.02 worth. I would guess that B&C would cut the channel the way you want it ?

Ramjet,

After checking out the B&C site, I see that they make a
very cool vented varminter stock for this Howa. But it
is about twice what I wanted to sink into the re-stock
project. But this certainly has me re-thinking this
project. I am happy that there is a next Spring deadline
on this one. I might have to ask Santa for this stock,
and put up with the floppy factory stock until then.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Loco,

Unfortunately for Midsouth, and maybe fortunately for me,
the pillar bedded varminter barrel channel version is out
of stock, and over due. Which I never feel good about
ordering under those conditions. In the mean time, I
stumbled on the B&C vented varminter stock that really
is more of what I was looking for, albeit twice the price.
I will probably start throwing spare change in the bucket
until I have the cash for the B&C.

Thanks for the effort to help me get the Hogue, though.

If you end up with the B&C you get to pick the color . I have the tan with black spider web . It's pretty cool and looks good with ss and blue.
