A thigh rig or a regular belt holster with a drop or jacket slot might work for you. Since you mentioned usually only carrying it out around the farm. The drop or jacket slot will keep it from pinching at the waist or pushing against your side. I agree on some of the thigh rig concerns, but it doesn't sound like having to protect your weapon from being taken away etc.. would be an issue for what you're looking to do. If you go for the carrying in a traditional belt holster get a good belt that has a spine so it doesn't sag. I wouldn't think an IWB would be the best for carrying around the farm.

you can also get a Blackhawk serpa level 2 duty holster for around $80 its plastic so wont rub or scuff and easy to clean mud and it sits lower to notjab you. this is what I use for work and if later you want a thigh rig you can order a platform and bolt it to it. make sure its the level 2 you order if you go this route and if you do practice with it with an unloaded gun to get feel for it.
