Home made shooting sticks

Just went to a local hardware store today, picked up 3/8 dowels, and gas line, lubed the sticks, and slipped them in the gas line, slit the line, and put other stick in, to form a "crossbar on the top with the gas line(squatting shots), then put some above and below the joint for sitting and prone shots. I also made feet for them as i hunt in alot of snow. Once painted i will submit pics...
 
Here are the sticks that I made a few months ago. I used 7/8 inch dowels from Wal mart and I covered them with camo tape that I bought on clearance for a dollar. I used old archery field points to go in the bottoms of the sticks and I used a bow handle wrap for the tops, capped with chair legs caps. I have about 8 dollars in them and they work great for sitting or kneeling.

I've made 3 sets of them out of fiberglass kite poles. I got mine from a Seattle area kite shop called "Goodwinds Kites". Do a google search for kite making supplies and get the .414" diameter ones that are 54" long. The part number is FL414 fwet. They cost less than $5 bucks a piece. Then I used the IFH-331 internal ferruls and bought 5 or 6 feet of elastic cord and made them collapsable, not mandatory but nice for carrying. I went to my local auto parts supply store and got a foot of rubber hose, (find one that is a tight fit over the kite poles). This will leave a loop that will fold down nicely to hold your weapon.
Depending on how tight these fit you may or may not need to glue them on. Come down about 8" from the top and drill an 1/8" hole through the middle of both poles and use 1/8" bolt and nylock nuts with teflon washers, all avialable from your local big box stores, (Lowes, Home Depot etc.) I think I've got $12 or $13 bucks apiece into them.
 
I made some and usede the camo duct tape to camo them up. It serves two purposes, 1. it does camo them and 2. it is easier on your rifle than just the painted wood or stained wood.
