homemade Lightforce monopod

So ok I am a newbie here and I have to admit this is the greatest forum I have ever seen. I am amazed at how many people here are willing to help and share knowledge. I have to say I have stolen so many home made ideas here it isn't funny. I am the Fred Sanford of this forum. I am all set I built the ipod remote e caller and the Radio shack caller. I bought a Lightforce and tonight I made a monopod. So for all of you that can't get to Gander Mnt I went to Outdoor World tonight and bought a Hunter's Specialties® V-Pod Gun Rest. This rest is a mono but at the bottom it has spring loaded fork system that has a some promise for day hunting but it HAS THE SWIVEL GUN REST. I will add pictures later as the paint is drying just this moment. My point in all this is I made it a swivel light stick that allows you to move the light and not the gun until you are ready to shoot. It cost me $29 from Outdoor world and about $10 in parts to get it adapted. Outdoor World actually has a package deal where you get a V pod and a little heavy duty sitting stool and a camo blind cover with poles attached for $49. I bought it because it was cheaper to get the stool and v pod together than to buy them separately. I am getting old and need something to get my A$$ up off the ground. Well older or lazy one LOL. The only special tool I needed to make it was a Dremel. So if you have one this will take all of 30 minutes to retrofit. I will post pictures here soon and if anyone is interested I will be more than happy to give step by step on how to do it. Thanks to everyone here for all your creative ideas and for sharing them. Now I can't wait to get out this weekend and see if I can find something to shoot at. Just my luck I will be well equipped and with my 22-250, lightforce, e caller, mono pod light stick not to mention a JIB and find out there is nothing out there to shoot. I got to bring something home before the wife throws me out LOL.

Good deal, Redelk! Take a pic & post it up when its done...

For those guys needing a Gander Mt. monopod but can't find one, I can stop in & pick up a couple this weekend up at the Middletown store. Assuming they have them in stock, of course!

Just let me know if you want one by tomorrow(Friday)@ 4pm via PM. I will box them up & ship them over to you. Just cover the cost & shipping...should be around $5 buck max for a Priority box. So $25 should cover it...

let me know!
Fred

You are right about the great ideas that come from this site.I made up a mono light rig this morrning after I saw the one here,Iwas using my light on a camera tripod,I did pull the top off the tripod as I found my mono would slide through the hole now I have collapsable feet for hands free if I need it.Some great Ideas come from here .
Thanks,Bob.

I took a monopod and made a rubber strap to go over the gun out of an old timing belt. This locks my gun in the "v" and allows me to swivel the mono and gun at the same time.I rigged this up a few years ago and now have a scope mounted light, so I sweep with the gun and all. I noticed that all the pictures are showing the shooter in a sitting position, I have been standing ever since I learned to call at night. Do you notice a lower profile improves your success by sitting, or does it matter? I like the fabrication work that I saw in the pics BTW.

After I built my monopod I decided there was a few things I would like to change on mine. Would love to know some of the hardware you used to build yours and some basics of how you put it together. Well I guess I should say if you wouldn't mind sharing your trade secrets /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif The fields I am hunting have grass in them and I found out this weekend I need to be up a bit higher. Looks like you have a real nice set up.

I like to sit while calling at night because I'm a much better shot sitting than standing for one. And its also alot more comfortable & convenient to call while sitting. It allows me to put the FOXPRO remote or other gear on the ground by my side and not be fumbling with pockets & such...

I hunted with my monopod over the weekend and it worked very well for me! I was able to pan & scan easily both with the gun in the cradle and without. It's quite light & easy to carry. Adjustments in the field are a snap and its very secure in the shooting position. I think its a winner for me at least.
Didn't kill anything though, I picked the wrong ridge 3 nights in a row and was a step behind the pack each night. They were howling pretty good though...

I hope you guys are having better luck...

buy a stool with a rotating top fron gander mountain. than buy a vanguard spotting scope tri-pod. less than $150.00. seat rifle light move all as one unit. rifle can also move up and down and left and right.

Hey guys...

BUMPING this up from a while back since there's been alot of talk about light mounts and hunting alone here as of late. I learned alot from this thread and was inspired enough to build a little setup that works GREAT for hunting alone in the open...

Pardon the hijacking (and my bare feet!)...

Knock'emdown,

Thanks for the idea. I tried this with my Stoney Point Monopod. It took a little while to get used to on stand, but once I got the hang of it, I liked it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif
