I finally tried one of these the other day. I got the .22 cal since i have a few AR's and my new cz 527, and all the ole 22's ive rounded up, i must say i love it. One swipe and its mirror clean, i ended up buying another one friday for the 30 cal. Theyre reasonably cheap to, about 15 bucks. Anyway try one, youll be impressed.

Yup I have em for all my rifles in various calibers. On the .22 boresnake (I may be a little parinoid /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif) but I don't like a brush so I removed it on that cal..Its pretty easy the way its weaved into the rope to remove.Boresnake are great in my opinion! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hello,

Elkslayer, I checked the hoppe's site and they dont make mention of how long it will last. They do say that it is washable, not sure with what though.

I've used mine probablly 30 times in the last six months and it doesn't show any wear, just a little dirty. I've never washed mine.

I have a boresnake for my .243's. I think it works great too. I always pour a little Hoppes on it just ahead of the brush before I use it, then I pull it through the barrel twice. Do most of you guys also use Hoppes with them? After use I simply roll it back up and put it back in its paskage. So far mine shows no wear at all.

The best way that I have found to wash bore snakes is in a lingerie bag. They are available at Walmart for a couple bucks. Just a little zippered mesh bag. I always wash mine in hot water with regular laundry detergent. Has been working for me for several years.

A friend brought one on a prarie dog trip to N.M. ,i put some walmart outers foaming bore cleaner in let it soak for 15-20 min then pulled the boresnake through 5 times.
The bore "looked" clean then i ran a couple of patches through the barrel and was amazed how much grime came out.
I then ran some shooters choice in and gave the barrel 15 passes with a brush "then" it was clean.

Very handy when shooting pistol with Winchester white box or other "dirty" ammo like Wolf. Run it up through the mag well and down the bore and it'll take a lot of the crud off the feed ramp as well.

I only use bore snakes for field cleaning once before washing it in the machine. I don't think anyone would reuse cleaning patches in their bore, but bore snake users don't hesitate to run a snake through many times. All the carbon that it picks up the first trip thru is still on it after each use. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

I use a piece of nylon cord with a weight on one end and a loop for a patch on the other. I first run a wet patch through, let it soak a while so the bore cleaner can work, then run the bore snake through twice. This also keeps the Snake cleaner. I also found that if You take a new clean Bore Snake and run it through the gun before shooting it after it has been cleaned the first shot will be right on. it worked on My three guns, but I woud try it on yours before depending on it.

Like Mike, I have found that I still get pretty dirty patches even after running the boresnake through the gun 4 or 5 times.

I use mine in the field, they are easy to pack. I use them for a quick clean when I don't want to break the gun down after a day hunting. But I still use a patch & rod for a good scrub.

I've watched a lot of guys use boresnakes. The usual user steps on the end of it to pull it though the barrel. I've noticed the snake picking up more than just a little dirt. I'd avoid the practice of dragging dirt through my barrel. If you don't agree. Just dab your patches in the dirt before you run them through your bore. They are a good idea if used properly. The problem being I just never seen that done.
