Horn of the Hunter--A must read!

In the last issue of American Rifleman, they had an article on a safari taken by Robert Ruark which was guided by Harry Selby, the dean of all PH’s in Africa.

I was intrigued by this, and happened to stumble on Ruark’s book, Horn of the Hunter, which was based on the first safari that Selby guided for Ruark.

It is a fascinating read, and really captures the essence of the true safari experience, that I am sure one could get today, but only by spending somewhere in the mid 5 figures.

If you at all interested in Africa, you need to get a copy of this book!

Yep, it's been a few years since I read it but I liked it also. Likely a bygone era for the most part.

Another book I really like is by Jim Corbett. It tells of his forays hunting maneatering tigers and leopards in India. "Man-eaters of Kumaon" is a real adventure if you've never read it.

How ironic--got a first edition of that Corbett book at an antique shop just last summer for $2.50!

Haven't read it yet, though!

Find some time and read Corbett's book. I'll think you'll find Corbett's adventures quite exciting.
 
Corbett made enough mistakes with tigers and leopards he is lucky to have survived! What is that old saying, "I'd rather be lucky than good..."
