Hornady 45 grain 204 Bullets

Hi all:
I just brewed up a batch of 204 Ruger loads with the 45 grain Hornadys over RL15 powder in various weight charges to try. I decided to go with this heavy pill for the heavy NH yotes I will be attempting to kill. My rifle is one of the first Ruger 77 std. rifles with I believe a 1/12" twist. Anyone had any luck with the 45 grain pills in their 204?? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif I have shot one yote with a 32 grain V-max factory load and was ony partially impressed with the job it did. I know there are 35,39,and 40 grain choices, but I was hoping to make the big boys work. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

They won't stabilize in my CZ 527 Varmint, but here's what the Hornedy 39 grainers do at a hundred yards.

Some rifles choke on the 40 grainers and I havn't seen many that will do well with th 45's and the standard 1 in 12 twist. Hope your Ruger does well with them.

I shot a few coyotes with them last year and was not impressed at all.On a broadside shot they will exit even at 350 yds. Shot one female facing staight on at 100 yds. and took the front shoulder right off. Then I found the 35 and 40gr bergers and started using them and have no need to use anything else. If you want heavier bullets try the 40 gr Berger. Good hunting B-78.

The 45s shot very well out of my CZ sporter less than .5 with the factory hornadys.Groundhogs where Doa at 300 plus yards with the bullet going right thru with good expansion. On coyotes might be good with a broadside shot however a front shoulder as b78 stated is going to be the downside.Let us know.

The 45g SPs are the only factory cartridges that shoot good out of my .204 Handi Rifle. The 40g Berger HPBT's are decent, but I can make cloverleafs with the Hornadys. I haven't shot a coyote with them yet though.

Bob which bullet you shooting? Hornady makes the 40 gr v-max. Sierra the 39gr blitzking I believe. I was gonna try the 45gr Hornady soft point. Did you get some keyholes when you test fired them in your CZ rifle? Thx /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif Greg

It must be the Sierra Blizking he is shooting. Hornandy doesn't make 39gr. I have the CZ on layaway and should get it next month. I'm excited myself to start working on a load. I Was thinking of starting with the Blitzking even though I've always been a Hornady fan. Where in Western MOntana are you Greg?

DennisP-
I live just south of Lolo. Where abouts you at? I have heard the Blitzking shoots well and guys are getting some great groups with it. Very high BC, flat shooting, better in the wind, but I was worried about the splash factor I have heard about. At least one member here is using the Nosler 40 gr and says been good fur bullet for him. Lots of guys like the Bergers 35/40 gr. I think Mike Granger killed a bunch with his Dtech AR(204) last season with good results using the 35gr. Anyway I hope you like the CZ, I have become very fond of mine its the varmint model. It sure is fun to shoot! Take care /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif-Greg
