Hornady Heavy Magnum Coyote

That doesn't sound right. I've had guys tell me the #00B patterns "good" at 40 yards with an 870 with cyl and IC choke.

My order just arrived, too cold to go out and shoot right now but maybe later in the week I'll get a chance to let one off.
 
Not sure why anybody wants to use 00buck for predators.

Shoot it up, be done with it and concentrate on getting the BB to shoot good for ya. You'll be better off.
 
The main reason I wanted to try to 00buck was because I hunt in some pretty thick timber that at spots have a lot of brush, so I figured the 00buck would carry more energy allowing it to pass through the brush better without getting knocked off track. Would the bb loads do fine in this environment?

You are probably somewhat correct in that thinking.

BUT, at times Ive shot the BB's through some sage brush and enough of them got through to put the coyotes down.

I dunno, it's your area and you know better than I on what you need to make it work for ya. Good luck.
 
I tried some today and it was not love at first shot. I was shooting at an 8" pie plate at 50 yds.
3" 870 30" barrel. I tried my turkey choke .675 first cause that's what I use for #4 buck. I only put 1 BB in the pie plate, next shot 4 BBs, next shot 3 BBs. I can put 5-7 #4 buck in the plate consistent @ 50 yds with the same choke. The only other choke I have is a modified .710. I tried it and got 3-4 BBs on avg. I plan to get a middle ground choke around .680 or so and see what it does. Those that have 3" guns, please tell me what choke works best for you and what will it do at 50 yds in an 8" circle.

I don't know Chupa, just a Rem extra full (turkey) for lead shot only, and the Mod is a Redhead (Basspro) brand that says it will shoot all types of shot. All the wads are landing together about 30 yds out, you could stand in one spot and pick them all up.

You need to find out. If they are designed to strip the wad from the shot column, it absolutely WILL NOT pattern well with anything that uses the flight control wad and the like.

Wad stripping chokes are either ported or have internal lugs like Patternmaster, or both.

A Rem turkey is not a wad stripper.

50 yards is getting out there for BB and coyotes.
 
Ive been debating trying some of this, but I couldn't get their turkey loads to pattern good in anything but a ported turkey choke. Anybody try these in a mossberg 500?
 
i bought some in 00. at 20yd pattern was size of my hand. thats out of an 18in barrle no choke. havent had a coyote close enough to try it yet. my brother in law had a wounded one crawling off and i hit it with one from about 25yd and it finished the job.
 
I have some experience with the flight control wad (federals version of the wad in these loads) and I can tell you without even picking up a gun that a Full or Xfull will NOT pattern these worth a darn. The wad is designed to do it all on its own and needs NO interference from the choke itself.

Anything tighter than a mod and you are decreasing the effectiveness. Cyl will out pattern mod at most ranges. From the testing I have done with federals, IC is about the middle ground for those wads. IC and a flight control turkey load will produce a tighter pattern than an XF and a regular turkey load.

That was a pretty good job.. except for when he said the #BB did not have the penetration to work at 40 yards on coyotes, and #00B is good to 40 yards. Pretty sure you could roll a coyote with those #00B at well past 70 yards if you held the pattern. He doesn't have a clue about penetration needed for various game, but he does a good job patterning the center core.
