I see hornady has a new superformance line of ammo now. Anyone have any experience with these? Are you getting the velocities that are advertised?

Have not tried them yet dont really plan to I guess. If you are shooting yotes or anything I always say ya hit em or ya dont. 100 more fps aint going to matter.

I have not chrono'd them but I have shot them in my R15 223(very accurate), my Xbolt 243 (very accurate with SST's and horrific with GMX's), and my 25-06 B78 (SST's horrible)
All these rifles shoot .5 to .75 with other stuff too.

Shot 6 rounds through my 7MM-08 before the barrel was replaced. Horrible groups. Averaged about 2 1/2 in group at 100 yards. I then decided to replace the barrel and used them for fire-forming to AI and sighting in the scope. Still lousey accuracy. Several guys at the range tried them and results are similar to mine. Rumor has it that the local Bass Pro shop has removed them from their shelves because of customer complaints. That part, I don't know is true or not, just a rumor. I won't use them again, but I seldom buy loaded ammo anyway. At the time of purchase, I was having problems with a rifle trying to get ready for Okla. whitetail rifle season and was running out of time.

Are you asking about the Superformance Varmint with the 53 grain V-max designed specifically for the 223? These are supposed to give 22-250 performance from a 223. Faster and less drop is fine with me. They seem to be on the same level pricewise as most other premium factory ammo. As long as they are accurate, I can't understand what all the negativity is about. Most of the negative comments seem to come from handloaders but if you don't roll your own, I don't see anything but good from this round. So has anyone tried the Superformance Varmint?

I dont care about the superformance loaded ammo but imam gonna try the hogdon/superformance powder ant the hogdon/lever revolution powder that hornady worked with hogdon to make. sounds cool

singlecoil- Granted, I do reload almost ALL my ammo. Once in a while (seldom), I'll buy factory stuff. The factory Superformance I bought shot groups in the range of 2-2 1/2 in. groups at 100yds. A few friends, that don't reload, tried them with the same results. I observed the accuracy of these bullets myself, not just hear say. My rifle and the other rifle that I saw shooting these Hornady rounds were both custom rifles that shoot very well. Maybe the varmint rounds will shoot better or maybe 2 inch groups are good enough for some people. Just not good enough for me.
Not trying to be negative, just answering the post.

Pyscodog- I don't have any problem with your post and appreciate the info. I definitely won't buy superformance for my 25-06 and I agree that 2' grougs from a premium priced round is unacceptable. Do a search and you'll see a lot of guys badmouthing the SV without trying it. I haven't seen any post on this forum about the Superformance Varmint accuracy yet and I'm hoping Hornady has solved the accuracy problem with the newly designed 53 gr. V-Max bullet. Predator Extreme magazine has given the S Varmint a pretty good review but did not have the new 53 gr. bullet to try. Hornady says the bullet was designed specifically for the .223 and will not be loaded in any other round. Makes me think that hornady has put some major effort towards making this an accurate round. If it is accurate, it should be a great round for us guys who don't reload. BC of .290 and velocity of 3,450 fps. 200 yd. zero and a drop of 5.6" at 300yd. I'm hoping for the best.

I didn't do a full blown post on the Superformance 223 bu I did mention it up at the top of this thread. I shot two three shot groups that were mirror images of each other back to back on different targets. Three shots touching each time in the same position. Also the SST Superformance in my 243 Xbolt are .5 moa and are [beeep] on whitetails.
The GMX 243 sucked and the SSTs in my 25 06 did too. Each rifle's different, you guys know that. The Superformance gets a bad rap and I don't know why. I like em.
